Al'ar, Healer Guide
Updated 1 year, 10 months ago for patch 2.5.2 by Preston. View the change log.
This page covers a healer-focused strategy for Al'ar in Tempest Keep/The Eye in The Burning Crusade. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.
This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the encounter, combat log information, and Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
General Mechanics and Abilities
All Stages
- If no players are in melee range, Flame Buffet deals increasing damage over time to all players.
- Various abilities spawn Embers of Al'ar, detailed below.
- Ember of Al'ar
- Susceptible to stuns.
- Upon death, stay more than 8-yards away to avoid Ember Blast.
- Additionally upon death, drains 2% of Al'ar's health.
- Ember of Al'ar
- After 10-minutes, goes Berserk, greatly increasing attack speed and damage dealt.
Stage One - Quills
This stage begins the encounter and ends when Al'ar is killed for the first time.
- Al'ar stays on the platforms on the second level of the room, moving to a new one in a clockwise pattern every ~30-seconds.
- Changing platforms spawns an Ember of Al'ar.
- During Flame Quills, stay off the upper platforms and ramps leading to them to avoid the moderate damage over time.
- Upon death, stay more than 8-yards away to avoid Ember Blast.
Stage Two - Rebirth
This stage begins after Al'ar is killed for the first time in stage one and ends when it's killed for the final time.
- Al'ar is on the ground during this stage and no longer tied to the upper platforms.
- The tanks will be dealing with Melt Armor, forcing a tank switch.
- During Dive Bomb, stack with the targeted player to split the damage dealt.
- Immediately after the impact, move more than 15-yards away to avoid the light damage and knock back effect from Rebirth.
- This spawns two Embers of Al'ar.
- Avoid the locations of Flame Patches.
- Targets random players with Charge, dealing light damage and stunning them.
- This can sometimes trigger Flame Buffet if Al'ar doesn't run back to the tank.
Healing Notes
Quick Notes
The notes below mostly pertain to progression difficulty, meaning if you out-gear the encounter or use extra healers they may not apply.
- Use Cooldowns
- on Dive Bomb
- Pre-heal Before (mainly for heal over time classes)
- Other things to watch for
- During stage one, players may end up out of line of sight if they're not standing close enough to the edge of the platform.
Debuffs to Track
Major
- Melt Armor can cause the tanks to need additional healing.
Useful Addons
DBM Settings
Below are the DBM settings I'll be using for Al'ar in Tempest Keep/The Eye. You can set them up however you'd like, but these ones should work well as a starting point.
