Reliquary of Souls, Healer Guide
Updated 1 year, 4 months ago for patch 2.5.3 by Preston. View the change log.
This page covers a healer-focused strategy for Reliquary of Souls in the Black Temple in The Burning Crusade. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.
This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the encounter, combat log information, and Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
General Mechanics and Abilities
During this encounter, players will be fighting against the three faces of the Reliquary.
Stage One - Essence of Suffering
This stage begins the encounter and ends when the Essence of Suffering is killed.
- Aura of Suffering prevents healing and health regeneration, and reduces armor and defense.
- Damage absorption effects and effects that reduce damage taken are still effective.
- Fixates on the closest player in melee range.
- Dispel Soul Drain (magic) to prevent the light damage over time and mana drain effect.
- While Enrage is active, gains increased attack speed and physical damage dealt.
Intermission One - Enslaved Souls
- Players must kill persistent waves of Enslaved Souls.
- Enslaved Soul
- Upon death, Soul Release restores 30% heath and mana to all players within 10-yards.
- Enslaved Soul
Stage Two - Essence of Desire
This stage begins following the first intermission and ends when the Essence of Desire is killed.
- Aura of Desire greatly increases healing done, while slowly reducing maximum mana and causing players to take damage when they deal damage.
- The tanks will be dealing with Deaden.
- Ideally, this should be reflected with Spell Reflection to apply the increased damage taken effect to the boss.
- During Rune Shield:
- Purge the Shield to remove the damage absorption, immunity to interrupt, and increased attack and casting speed effects.
- Interrupt Spirit Shock to prevent the heavy damage dealt to and disorient effect on the tank.
Intermission Two - Enslaved Souls
- Players must kill persistent waves of Enslaved Souls.
- Enslaved Soul
- Upon death, Soul Release restores 30% heath and mana to all players within 10-yards.
- Enslaved Soul
Stage Three - Essence of Anger
This stage begins following the second intermission and ends when the Essence of Anger is killed.
- Aura of Anger gradually increases damage dealt while dealing increasing damage over time.
- Don't stand in front to avoid Soul Scream.
- Soothe Seethe to remove the increased attack speed effect.
- This greatly increases threat generated by players while Seethe is active.
- Targets random players with Spite, making them immune to damage before dealing heavy damage to them with Spite when the effect expires.
Resistance Levels
- Players generally won't make use of any additional Resistances on this encounter.

Useful Addons
DBM Settings
Below are the DBM settings I'll be using for Reliquary of Souls in the Black Temple. You can set them up however you'd like, but these ones should work well as a starting point.
