Sisters of the Moon, Healer Guide
Updated 6 years ago for patch 7.3.2 by Preston. View the change log.
This page covers a healer-focused strategy for Sisters of the Moon in the Tomb of Sargeras. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.
This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the fight as well as Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
General Mechanics and Abilities
Normal and Heroic
During this fight, you'll be facing off against three sisters. They all share health, and only one will be in their physical for at a time.
Shared Abilities
- During the entire fight, Font of Elune will continually cycle the floor of the room, triggering some mechanics while allowing you to deal with others as noted throughout the guide.
- Standing on the light side of the moon applies stacks of Lunar Suffusion.
- Standing on the dark side of the moon applies stacks of Umbra Suffusion.
Stage One - the huntress
During this stage, Huntress Kasparian will be in her human form. This stage begins the fight and ends at 70% health.
- Huntress Kasparian
- Tanks will be dealing with Moon Glaive.
- The tank will be affected by Discorporate, which can be removed by switching to the other side of the moon.
- Avoid the path of Twilight Glaive.
- Tanks will be dealing with Moon Glaive.
- Captain Yathae Moonstrike
- Stand in the path of Incorporeal Shot to mitigate the damage done to the targeted player.
- Avoid Twilight Volley circles.
- Shadow Shot deals moderate damage to random players.
- Priestess Lunaspyre
- Moon Burn deals heavy damage over time to the affected player, and can be removed by switching to the other side of the moon.
- Lunar Strike deals heavy damage to random players.
- Embrace of the Eclipse places a damage absorb effect on Yathae, and healing absorb effects on all players.
- The damage absorb effect needs to be damaged and removed before it expires and deals the remaining amount as damage to the entire group.
- Similarly, the healing absorbs should be healed, and if they can't be healed, affected players should move at least 8-yards away from other players before they expire.
Stage Two - bow of the night
During this stage, Captain Yathae Moonstrike will be in her human form. This stages begins at 70% health and ends at 40% health.
- Captain Yathae Moonstrike
- Call Moontalon summons an add, Moontalon, into the fight.
- Moontalon uses Deathly Screech at 30% health, dealing steadily increasing damage to the group.
- Avoid Twilight Volley circles.
- Rapid Shot deals heavy damage over time to random players.
- Call Moontalon summons an add, Moontalon, into the fight.
- Priestess Lunaspyre
- Embrace of the Eclipse continues in this Stage.
- Moon Burn deals moderate damage over time to the affected player, and can be removed by switching to the other side of the moon.
- Lunar Strike deals moderate damage to random players.
- Huntress Kasparian
- Avoid the path of Twilight Glaive.
- Avoid the fragments from Glaive Storm.
- Spectral Glaive deals damage to three random players.
Stage Three - wrath of elune
During this stage, Priestess Lunaspyre will be in her human form. This stage begins at 40% health and ends when the boss is killed.
- Priestess Lunaspyre
- When affected by Lunar Beacon, use a personal defensive cooldown and move away from other players.
- This ability deals heavy damage over time and causes the affected player to drop arcane barrage circles underneath them.
- Moon Burn deals heavy damage over time to the affected player, and can be removed by switching to the other side of the moon.
- The tanks will be dealing with Lunar Fire, which deals moderate damage over 30-seconds.
- When affected by Lunar Beacon, use a personal defensive cooldown and move away from other players.
- Huntress Kasparian
- Avoid the path of Twilight Glaive.
- Avoid the fragments from Glaive Storm.
- Spectral Glaive deals damage to three random players.
- Captain Yathae Moonstrike
- Stand in the path of Incorporeal Shot to mitigate the damage done to the targeted player.
- Avoid Twilight Volley circles.
- (236305) likely moderate damage to random players.
Mythic Differences
- Switching between the two sides of the moon triggers Astral Purge, dealing damage to the player and the entire group.
- To deal with this, my guild divided the raid into six groups spread out evenly in a line across the room, four ranged/healer groups, and two melee/tank groups. This helps ensure no more than 3-4 purges happen at once as the moon phases shift across the room.
Healing Strategy
Quick Notes, All Difficulties
Shared Abilities
- Players will be taking steadily increasing damage from Lunar Suffusion and Umbra Suffusion throughout the fight.
Stage One - the huntress
- Tanks will alternate taking the healing debuff from Moon Glaive, be aware of this if a tank switch is slow for any reason.
- Players soaking Incorporeal Shot will need moderate to heavy healing, depending how many other players are also soaking.
Stage Two - bow of the night
- Deathly Screech from Moontalon can cause heavy damage if it's not killed quickly once it begins.
- The healing absorbs from Embrace of the Eclipse should be healed as much as possible to mitigate the damage dealt when it expires.
- Ideally, you'd use a group-healing cooldown to get rid of the absorbs quickly and reliably.
- Players affected by Moon Burn will need moderate healing until they remove it.
- Spectral Glaive deals unavoidable damage to random players, adding to the healing requirement in this Stage.
Stage Three - wrath of elune
- Players affected by Lunar Beacon will need critical healing and possibly an external defensive cooldown.
- Players affected by Moon Burn will need heavy healing until they remove it.
- The tanks will be taking constant damage from Lunar Fire.
- Spectral Glaive deals unavoidable damage to random players, adding to the healing requirements in this Stage.
- Players soaking Incorporeal Shot will need moderate to heavy healing, depending how many other players are also soaking
In-depth Notes, Normal and Heroic
Consider this section in "beta." My goal is to lay out the order of events without necessarily providing an entire strategy for all roles (other sites do that already). The idea being it should help organize your cooldowns or pre-healing. Feedback is greatly appreciated as Tomb of Sargeras is my first time attempting something like this.
Based on the Event List, we can assume the following:
- Moon Burns are applied every 20-seconds, starting 10-seconds into the fight.
- Twilight Glaive occurs every 20-seconds, starting 20-seconds into the fight.
- Twilight Volley occurs every 20-seconds, starting 20-seconds into the fight.
- Embrace of the Eclipse occurs every 60-seconds, starting 40-seconds into the fight.
- This only occurs during Stage One and Stage Two.
- Incorporeal Shot occurs every 55-seconds, starting 50-seconds into the fight and 20-seconds into Stage Three.
- This only occurs during Stage One and Stage Three.
- Lunar Beacon occurs every 30-seconds, starting 15-seconds into Stage Three.
- This only occurs during Stage Three.
Debuffs to Track
- Embrace of the Eclipse should be tracked so the absorb can be healed.
- Moon Burn causes players to need heavy healing.
- Lunar Beacon causes players to need heavy healing and possibly external defensive cooldowns.
- (Optional) Moon Glaive can be tracked so you know which tank is taking reduced healing.
DBM Settings
Below are the DBM settings I'll be using for the Sisters of the Moon. You can set them up however you'd like, but these ones should work well as a starting point. Some settings may be Mythic only.
