Argus the Unmaker, Healer Guide
Updated 5 years, 4 months ago for patch 7.3.5 by Preston. View the change log.
This page covers a healer-focused strategy for Argus the Unmaker in Antorus, the Burning Throne. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.
This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the fight as well as Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
General Mechanics and Abilities
Normal and Heroic
This is a multi-Stage encounter during which you'll be fighting against Argus the Unmaker with assistance from the Titan Pantheon.
Stage One - storm and sky
This Stages begins the fight and ends when Argus reaches 70% health.
- The tanks will be dealing with Sweeping Scythe.
- Don't be in front of Argus to avoid being hit, it's a wide, 180 degree arc.
- Players will randomly gain Golganneth's Aid.
- After a short time, they'll drop two orbs on the ground that can be touched to gain a stack of their corresponding buff.
- Gift of the Sky grants Strength of the Sky.
- Gift of the Sea grants Strength of the Sea.
- After a short time, they'll drop two orbs on the ground that can be touched to gain a stack of their corresponding buff.
- Avoid the Cone of Death when Argus reaches 100 Titanic Essence.
- This leaves a cone of Death Fog on the ground.
- When affected by Soulblight, move away from the group to drop the resulting Death Fog puddle.
- Tortured Rage inflicts moderate damage to the entire group.
Stage Two - the protector redeemed
This Stage begins when Argus reaches 70% health and ends when Argus reaches 40% health.
- Avoid Golganneth's Wrath at the edges of the room.
- This clears out all Death Fog.
- The tanks will be dealing with Sweeping Scythe.
- Don't be in front of Argus to avoid being hit, it's a wide, 180 degree arc.
- One tank will have the Avatar of Aggramar buff, doubling their health and increasing their movement speed.
- Players that stand near this tank will gain Aggramar's Boon, transferring all damage taken to the tank.
- At 100 Titanic Essence, Argus uses Volatile Soul.
- When affected by Soulburst, move as far away from the group as possible to mitigate damage dealt from Soulburst Detonation.
- When affected by Soulbomb, move to the tank with Avatar of Aggramar to mitigate the damage dealt from Soulbomb Detonation.
- Both the tank and affected player should be as far away from the group as possible to mitigate damage dealt to the group.
- Avoid the Edge of Obliteration lines.
Stage Three - the arcane masters
This Stage beings when Argus reaches 40% health.
- Aman'thul subdues Argus with Temporal Blast, releasing Constellar Designates.
- Constellar Designates
- These adds don't need to be tanked, except where noted below.
- When affected by Cosmic Ray, point the line away from the group.
- When not affected, avoid the lines.
- Cosmic Beacon must be interrupted.
- If not interrupted, Cosmic Smash will land on the targeted player, dealing moderate damage to the entire group and stacking light damage over time.
- Starblast deals light damage to random players.
- This is interruptible, but Cosmic Beacon should take priority.
- Periodically, two of the Designates will gain weapons from the Stellar Armory.
- While wielding a weapon, Designates no longer use the abilities above and must be tanked.
- Sword of the Cosmos increases melee damage done.
- Also applies Cosmic Power, increasing the damage done of all Designates within 20-yards.
- Blades of the Eternal increases melee damage done.
- On Heroic, Impending Inevitability makes the Designate immune to interrupts for 20-seconds every time it's interrupted.
- This means Starblast should never be interrupted.
- Norgannon's Aid grants The Discs of Norgannon, increasing elemental damage dealt to the Constellar Designates.
- Each Designate will be vulnerable to one school of magic.
Stage Four - the gift of life, the forge of loss
This Stage begins when the Constellar Designates are killed, and ends when Argus is killed.
- Argus kills all players with Reap Soul, while dead, players are in the Spirit World.
- The Spirit World
- While dead, players will be inside the Spirit World.
- Avoid the Hungering Souls, touching them triggers Soul Detonation, knocking players back and reducing their movement speed.
- Collect Motes of Titanic Power to fuel Khaz'goroth's Titanforging, explained more below.
- Players are able to resurrect and leave the Spirit World with Eonar's Aid.
- Dead players may stand by the Gift of the Lifebinder to be returned to life.
- Once the Gift is depleted, it becomes a Withered Gift of the Lifebinder and must be healed so it can continue resurrecting players for as long as possible before dying.
- Each player that resurrects applies a stack of Withering Roots, making it harder to heal the Gift as the fight goes on.
- Khaz'goroth's Aid
- Khaz'goroth gains a stack of Titanic Essence each time a Mote of Titanic Power is collected in the Spirit World.
- At 20 Titanic Essence, he will begin channeling Titanforging for 1.5 seconds per stack of Titanic Essence, including any gained during his channel.
- While the channel is active, all players gain increased damage, healing, and movement speed from Titanforged.
- The Living World
- End of All Things should be interrupted.
- Argus uses several abilities from earlier stages.
- The tanks will be dealing with Sweeping Scythe.
- Don't be in front of Argus to avoid being hit, it's a wide, 180 degree arc.
- At 100 Titanic Essence, Argus uses Volatile Soul.
- When affected by Soulburst, move as far away from the group as possible to mitigate damage dealt from Soulburst Detonation.
- When affected by Soulbomb, move as far away from the group as possible to mitigate the damage dealt from Soulbomb Detonation.
- Avatar of Aggramar isn't available in this Stage, so use an immunity or strong personal defensive cooldown to survive the Soulbomb Detonation if possible.
- Tortured Rage inflicts heavy damage to the entire group.
- The tanks will be dealing with Sweeping Scythe.
- Avoid the impact locations of Ember of Rage.
- Avoid standing in the steadily increasing area of effect around Reorigination Modules to avoid the fatal damage from Reorigination Pulse.
- Each Reorigination Pulse deals damage to the Reorigination Module and creates Motes of Titanic Power in the Spirit World.
- These need to be DPS'd down to prevent the Pulse Radius from becoming too large.
Mythic Differences
Stage Three - the arcane masters
- The Dungeon Journal suggests the fight will be drastically different from Stage Three and beyond on Mythic difficulty, but no specific information has been added at this time. Expect updates once they're available!
Healing Notes
Quick Notes, All Difficulties
The notes below mostly pertain to progression difficulty, meaning if you out-gear the difficulty you're on or use extra healers they may not apply.
- Use Major Cooldowns on
- Cosmic Smash if an interrupt is missed in Stage Three.
- Soulburst Detonation / Soulbomb Detonation and Tortured Rage in Stage Four.
- Use Minor Cooldowns on
- Pre-heal Before (mainly for heal over time classes)
- Soulburst Detonation / Soulbomb Detonation
- Tortured Rage in Stage Four.
- Other things to watch for
- Players affected by Cosmic Ray will need moderate healing.
- Be prepared to heal the Withered Gift of the Lifebinder in Stage Four.
Debuffs to Track
- Several abilities cause players to need additional healing
- (Optional) Aggramar's Boon can be tracked so you know which players won't be taking any damage.
DBM Settings
Below are the DBM settings I'll be using for Argus the Unmaker. You can set them up however you'd like, but these ones should work well as a starting point. Some settings may be Mythic only.
