This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences as well as Dungeon Journal and combat log information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
Bosses
Below are guides for the bosses in Return to Karazhan, including their abilities, healer notes, and addon settings.
Opera Hall
Players face one of these encounters at random every week.
Wikket
During this encounter, players will be fighting Elfyra and Galindre at the same time.
Both bosses share a health pool due to Wikket Bond.
Elfyra
- Interrupt Dreary Bolt to prevent the light damage dealt to the tank.
- Summons Winged Assistants with Summon Assistants.
- Winged Assistant
- Deals light damage to random players with Throw Stuff.
- Winged Assistant
- Avoid the impact locations of Defy Gravity and the resulting Defy Gravity pools.
- Touching a pool deals light damage to the player and knocks them into the air, this allows them to avoid Magic Magnificent, noted below.
Galindre
- Interrupt Flashy Bolt to prevent the light damage dealt to the tank.
- Avoid the impact locations of Wondrous Radiance.
- During Magic Magnificent, step into a Defy Gravity pool (noted above) to be knocked into the air to avoid the heavy damage.
Westfall Story
This encounter has three Stages with each Stage ending when the bosses are killed.
Stage One - Defias Brotherhood
Toe Knee
- Stay more than 10-yards away to avoid Burning Leg Sweep (dispel, magic).
- Deals light damage to all players with Dashing Flame Gale.
- Avoid the Flame Gale patches that are left behind.
Gang Ruffian
- Dispel Poisonous Shank (poison) to remove the light damage over time effect.
Stage Two - The Fins
Mrrgria
- Stay at least 5-yards from other players to avoid chaining the damage from Thunder Ritual.
- Avoid the path of Wash Away waves as they travel across the stage.
Shoreline Tidespeaker
- Interrupt Bubble Blast or avoid the bubble that moves around the stage.
Stage Three - Somewhere
Stage Three is similar to the other two stages except there are no Gang Ruffians or Shoreline Tidespeakers.
Toe Knee
- Continues to use Dashing Flame Gale.
Mrrgria
- Continues to use Thunder Ritual and Wash Away.
Beautiful Beast
Players fight against all bosses at the same time, with Coggleston being immune to damage until the others are killed.
Shared Abilities
- When a boss is killed, all remaining bosses heal to full health and gain a stack of Eminence, greatly increasing damage dealt.
- I recommend killing the bosses in this order: Luminore > Mrs. Cauldrons > Babblet > Coggleston.
Luminore
- Avoid Burning Blaze patches.
- Patches can be removed by a player affected by Drenched (detailed below) running into it.
- Interrupt Heat Wave to prevent the moderate damage over time to all players.
Mrs. Cauldrons
- Interrupt Leftovers to prevent the moderate damage dealt to players within 10-yards.
- Deals moderate damage to random players with Soup Spray, applying a stack of Drenched.
- When affected by Drenched, run into a Burning Blaze patch to remove it.
Babblet
- When targeted by Severe Dusting, run away from Babblet while avoiding kiting it over Burning Blaze patches.
- If it touches a Burning Blaze patch, it gains Sultry Heat, greatly increasing movement speed.
- If it reaches the targeted player, that player is incapacitated by Severe Dusting.
Coggleston
- Immune to damage until all other bosses are killed due to Spectral Service.
- The tank will be dealing with Dent Armor, increasing damage taken.
- Interrupt Dinner Bell! to prevent the increased haste effect on all enemies.
- Summons Silver Forks with Kara Kazham!.
- Silver Forks
- Stay more than 5-yards away to avoid Flashing Forks.
- Deals light damage over time to random players within 5-yards with Bloody Jab.
- Silver Forks

- Use cooldowns as-needed on Magic Magnificent.

- Use cooldowns as-needed on Dashing Flame Gale.

Keep players near full health to ensure they survive stepping into Defy Gravity pools.

Addons
Maiden of Virtue
- Interrupt Holy Shock to prevent the stacking Holy damage taken effect on the tank.
- Stay more than 6-yards away from other players to avoid chaining the damage from Holy Bolt. If this chains to three or more players, it will likely kill them.
- When affected by Sacred Ground, run to the very edge of the room before the debuff expires to drop the resulting pool.
- Standing in a pool deals stacking moderate to heavy damage over time.
- During Mass Repentance, step into a Sacred Ground pool just before the cast finishes to break the incapacitating effect.
- During Holy Wrath, deplete the (227817) damage absorption shield to interrupt Holy Wrath before it deals fatal damage to all players.
Healing Notes
- Use cooldowns on Mass Repentance, likely before or after the incapacitating effect to avoid it interrupting your cooldown.
Debuffs to Track
- Major: Sacred Ground
Mythic+ Notes
Players affected by Sacred Ground will be difficult to get to zero stacks.
Addons
Attumen the Huntsman
This encounter alternates between the first two Stages until Attumen is killed, at which point Midnight enrages and must also be killed.
Stage One - Horse and Rider as One
This stage begins the encounter and ends when Midnight reaches 50% health. It begins again after Midnight regenerates to 100% health in stage two.
- Midnight
- The tank will be dealing with extra damage from Stamp and Mounted Strike.
- During Mighty Stomp, don't cast any abilities to avoid the silence effect. This deals light damage to all players.
- Avoid the Spectral Charge horse walls as they move across the room.
Stage Two - Fighting on Foot
This stage begins when Midnight reaches 50% health in stage one and ends when she regenerates to 100% health. It begins again each time Midnight is brought back to 50% health.
- Midnight
- Don't stand in front to avoid Mezair.
- Attumen
- Don't stand in front to avoid Mortal Strike, this reduces the maximum health of all players hit.
- During Shared Suffering, stack on the tank to split the damage dealt.
Healing Notes
- Don't cast during Mighty Stomp.
- Use cooldowns on Shared Suffering.
Debuffs to Track
- There are no particular debuffs to track.
Mythic+ Notes
Keep players near full health to ensure they survive Shared Suffering.
During stage two, both bosses can spawn orbs.
Addons
Moroes
During this encounter, you will fight Moroes along with four out of six randomly chosen Dinner Guests. Before starting the encounter, you should use Ghost Trap to crowd-control three of the Guests. The traps are found on the ground inside Moroes' room and most of the adjacent rooms.
Moroes
- Dispel Coat Check (magic) to remove the reduced armor effect.
- Occasionally Vanishes, applying a stack of Garrote to a random player before reappearing.
- At 60% health, Moroes removes all crowd control effects from Dinner Guests with Ghastly Purge.
Moroes' Dinner Guests
- Four of the six guests listed below are present for the encounter.
- Dinner Guests within 15-yards of Moroes gain Dinner Party, greatly increasing attack speed and damage dealt.
- I recommend killing the Dinner Guests in the following order: Lady Keira Berrybuck, Baroness Dorothea Millstipe, Lady Catriona Von'Indi, Lord Crispin Ference, Baron Rafe Dreuger, Lord Robin Daris.
Lady Keira Berrybuck
- Purge Empowered Arms to remove the greatly increased attack speed and damage dealt effect.
Baroness Dorothea Millstipe
- Interrupt Mana Drain to prevent the Stun, mana drain, and moderate damage over time effect.
- Deals light damage to random players with Arcane Blast
Lady Catriona Von'Indi
- The tank will be dealing with extra damage from Smite.
- Interrupt Healing Stream to prevent the healing.
Lord Crispin Ference
- Don't stand in front to avoid Will Breaker.
Baron Rafe Dreuger
- Stay more than 10-yards away to avoid Iron Whirlwind.
Lord Robin Daris
- Avoid the locations of Whirling Edge blades.
Healing Notes
- Use cooldowns as-needed as Garrote stacks get higher.
Debuffs to Track
- Major: Coat Check (dispel, magic), Garrote
- Buffs to Purge: Empowered Arms
Mythic+ Notes
Addons
The Curator
Players alternate between the two stages until The Curator is killed.
Stage One - Actively Attacking
This stage begins the encounter and ends when The Curator reaches 10% mana. It begins again after it regenerates to 100% mana in stage two.
- Summons Volatile Energy with Summon Volatile Energy.
- Volatile Energy
- Arc Lightning deals steadily increasing light to moderate damage to all players.
- Avoid the impact location of Static Charge.
- Volatile Energy
- Avoid the impact locations of Power Discharge and the resulting Power Discharge lightning patch.
Stage Two - Regenerating Mana
This stage begins when The Curator reaches 10% mana and ends when it regenerates to 100% mana. It begins again when it reaches 10% mana in stage one.
Healing Notes
- Use cooldowns if Arc Lightning gets out of hand and on Overload.
Debuffs to Track
- There are no particular debuffs to track.
Mythic+ Notes
Damage dealt to random players with Arc Lightning will be exceptionally high.
Volatile Energy can cause additional orbs to spawn.
Persistent damage from Arc Lightning can make it difficult to get stacks to zero.
The knock up effect from serveral affixes can cause players to be caught in Power Discharge impact locations.
Addons
Shade of Medivh
While below 100% mana, randomly uses the following abilities.
- Interrupt Frostbite to prevent the heavy damage dealt to and incapacitating effect on a random player.
- When possible, interrupt Piercing Missiles to prevent the increasing moderate to heavy damage dealt to the tank by each subsequent missile.
- When possible, interrupt Inferno Bolt to prevent the moderate damage and light damage over time dealt to a random player and all players within 8-yards.
- If a player is incapacitated by Frostbite, hitting them with Inferno Bolt will break the effect.
- This spell uses several different spell IDs in addition to the casted spell above.
- Inferno Bolt denotes the targeted player.
- Inferno Bolt denotes the light damage over time effect.
At 100% mana, uses one of the following abilities.
- Ceaseless Winter applies a stacking moderate to heavy damage over time and reduced movement speed effect to all players.
- Moving or jumping gradually removes stacks, reducing the damage over time and reduced movement speed effect.
- Reaching 20 stacks permanently roots the player.
- Flame Wreath applies Flame Wreath fire circles to two players.
- Crossing into or out of a fire circle deals fatal damage to all players. It's generally easiest for everyone to quit moving when this is cast.
- ** If players are too close to each other and overlap fire circles, the fatal damage may trigger even if no one moves.

- Guardian's Image summons three Guardian's Images around the room.
- Guardian's Image
- Interrupt Arcane Bolt to prevent the increasing moderate to heavy damage dealt to random players.
- Deals increasing moderate to heavy damage to all players with Shimmer.
- Guardian's Image
Healing Notes
- Use cooldowns during Guardian's Image and Flame Wreath.
- The tank may need an external defensive cooldown if Piercing Missiles cannot be interrupted.
Debuffs to Track
- Major: Flame Wreath, Inferno Bolt, Frostbite
- Minor: Inferno Bolt
Mythic+ Notes
Damage on this encounter is incredibly high, to the point that offhealing from classes that can provide it may be necessary for Guardian's Image and Flame Wreath.
Each Guardian's Image during Guardian's Image can spawn additional orbs.
It will be incredibly difficult to get player's stacks to zero during Guardian's Image and Flame Wreath.
Several affixes may make Flame Wreath nearly impossible to deal with.
Addons
Mana Devourer
The goal of this encounter is to prevent the Mana Devourer from reaching 100% mana and using Decimating Essence.
- During Coalesce Power:
- Loose Mana orbs are created around the Mana Devourer and slowly travel towards it.
- Players should run over 1-3 Loose Mana orbs to prevent them from reaching the Mana Devourer and granting it mana. Each Loose Mana grants it 5% mana.
- Running over a Loose Mana applies a stack of Unstable Mana to the player, dealing stacking moderate to heavy damage over time while increasing damage dealt.
- Unstable Mana stacks can be removed by standing in a Energy Void zone.
- Avoid the locations of Energy Void zones, unless you're removing Unstable Mana stacks.
- Standing in a zone with no Unstable Mana stacks drains mana from the player instead.
- Avoid the impact location of Arcane Bomb.
- Deals moderate damage to all players with Energy Discharge.
Healing Notes
- Use cooldowns on Energy Discharge, especially if Unstable Mana stacks are high.
Debuffs to Track
- Major: Unstable Mana
Mythic+ Notes
Keep players near full health to ensure they survive Energy Discharge.
Getting stacks to zero on players with Unstable Mana can be difficult

Viz'aduum the Watcher
Stage One - Netherspace
This stage begins the encounter and ends when Viz'aduum reaches 66% health.
- Interrupt or dispel Burning Blast (magic) to prevent the stacking moderate damage over time dealt to the tank.
- When targeted by Acquiring Target, run away from other players to avoid the resulting Fel Beam and Fel Flames patches it leaves behind.
- When affected by Chaotic Shadows (dispel, magic), move away from other players before the effect expires or is dispelled to make the expanding ring of Explosive Shadows orbs easier to avoid.
- Avoid the impact locations of Bombardment and the Fel Flames patches left behind.
- Don't stand in front when it turns to cast Disintegrate.
Stage Two - Command Ship
This stage begins when Viz'aduum reaches 66% health and ends when it reaches 33% health.
- Follow Viz'aduum through its Demonic Portal to the first ship
- There is a short gauntlet you must run through when you first reach the ship.
- Avoid the Soul Harvest lightning being expelled from the fel pillars. There is a small path you can zig-zag through and not be hit.
- Changes to abilities from stage one:
- Continue to interrupt or dispel Burning Blast (magic) and avoid the impact locations of Bombardment.
- Acquiring Target/Fel Beam is no longer used.
- Chaotic Shadows (dispel, magic) now affects two players at once.
- Disintegrate can knock players off the ship.
Stage Three - The Rift!
This stage begins when Viz'aduum reaches 33% and ends when it's killed.
- Follow Viz'aduum through its Demonic Portal to the final ship
- When you first reach the ship, Viz'aduum is channeling
(230084)
on the far side of a gauntlet of lesser enemies.
- (230084) must be interrupted before the channel finishes and deals fatal damage to all players.
- Felguard Sentry
- Dispel Blazing Hamstring (magic) to remove the stacking light damage over time and reduced movement speed effect.
- Felguard Sentries continue to spawn throughout this stage.
- Avoid the small impact loctions of Shadow Phlegm targeted at random players.
- Changes to abilities from stage two:
- Continue to interrupt or dispel Burning Blast (magic).
- Bombardment is no longer used.
- Chaotic Shadows (dispel, magic) now affects three players at once.
- Disintegrate can still knock players off the ship.
Healing Notes
- During stage two and three, plan on dispelling at least one Chaotic Shadows (dispel, magic) to keep the orbs staggered and not appearing all at once.
- Use cooldowns on Chaotic Shadows (dispel, magic), especially in the later stages.
Debuffs to Track
- Major: Chaotic Shadows (dispel, magic)
- Minor: Burning Blast (dispel, magic), Blazing Hamstring (dispel, magic)
Mythic+ Notes
Keep the tank near full health to ensure they can survive Burning Blast (dispel, magic).
During stage three, Felguard Sentries can cause additional orbs to spawn.
During stage three, the tank will gain stacks quickly due to Felguard Sentries.
Addons
Nightbane
Players alternate between the two stages during this encounter.
Stage One - Nightbane
- The tank will be dealing with extra damage while Concentrated Power is active.
- Don't stand in front to avoid Cinder Breath.
- Interrupt Reverberating Shadows to prevent the heavy damage dealt to all players.
- Dispel Burning Bones (magic) when it reaches one stack. Each stack spawns a Restless Bones.
- When affected by Ignite Soul, stand in Charred Earth (detailed below) or otherwise damage yourself to have low health before the effect expires.
- Avoid the locations of Charred Earth cast on random players. These are permanent and should be placed as far away as possible.
- Fears all players with Bellowing Roar (dispel, magic).
Stage Two - Bonecursed
This Stage ends when the Bonecurse is killed.
- Nightbane flies into the air and summons a Bonecurse with Rain of Bones.

- Deals moderate damage to random players with Absorb Vitality.
- Bonecurse
- Nightbane continues to use Charred Earth and Burning Bones from the sky.
Healing Notes
- Avoid healing the player affected by Ignite Soul, their health should be as low as possible when the effect expires.
- Use cooldowns as-needed to recover from Bellowing Roar.
Debuffs to Track
- Major: Ignite Soul, Bellowing Roar (dispel, magic).
Mythic+ Notes
- Nightbane currently doesn't appear in the Mythic+ version of Return to Karazhan.

Below are notes for the trash mobs in Return to Karazhan. Return to Karazhan has a relatively linear layout, with some alternate routes available between some bosses. The trash below is listed as if you're completing the bosses in the order they're listed above, with alternate routes noted where applicable.
Entrance thru Opera Hall
- Forlorn Spirit
- Interrupt Soul Leech to prevent the healing.
- Interrupt or dispel Shadow Rend (magic) to prevent the heavy damage over time effect.
Soothe immediately.
- Shrieking Terror
- Interrupt Terrifying Wail to prevent the fear effect on all players.
- Dispel Cursed Touch (curse) to remove the light damage over time effect.
- Ghostly Philanthropist
- Avoid the impact locations of Pennies From Heaven.
- At 20% health, takes greatly increased damage while Dead Broke is active.
- Upon death, increases physical damage dealt of all nearby enemies with Charitable Donation.
Soothe immediately.
- Spectral Patron
Opera Hall thru Maiden of Virtue
- Phantom Crew
- The tank will be dealing with Hammer Down, increasing physical damage taken.
- Deals light damage to random players with Pyrotechnics.
- Ghostly Understudy
- The tank should keep enemies out of the location of In The Spotlight to prevent the greatly increased damage dealt effect.
- Interrupt Poetry Slam or stay more than 4-yards away to avoid the Stun effect.
- Upon death, stay more than 5-yards away to avoid Final Curtain.
- Backup Singer
- Interrupt Firelands Portal to prevent the moderate damage dealt to all players and an additional enemy from being summoned.
- Ancient Core Hound
- Interrupt Dinner Time to prevent the heavy damage over time dealt to a random player.
- Don't stand in front when it turns to cast Flame Breath.
- Fears all players with Terrifying Roar.
- Flamewaker Centurion
- The tank will be dealing with Mortal Strike, reducing healing received.
- Unbound Pyrelord
- Deals light damage over time to random players with Ignite.
- Ancient Core Hound
- When possible, interrupt Purify to prevent debuffs from being dispelled from enemies.
- Interrupt Firelands Portal to prevent the moderate damage dealt to all players and an additional enemy from being summoned.
- Skeletal Usher
- The tank will be dealing with stacks of Punch Ticket, reducing armor.
- When Flashlight is cast, face away to avoid the incapacitating effect from Flashlight.
Soothe immediately.
- Spectral Valet
- The tank will be dealing with moderate melee damage.
- Phantom Guardsman
- Summons a Phantom Hound with Summon Phantom Hound.

- The tank will be dealing with light damage over time from Rend.

- Reformed Maiden
- Dispel Flirt (magic) to prevent the heavy damage dealt when Heartbreaker is cast.
- Wholesome Hostess
- Dispel Allured (magic) to prevent it reaching 100 stacks and mind-controlling the affect player.
- Virtuous Gentleman/Virtuous Lady
- Interrupt Horrific Visage to prevent the Fear effect on all players.
- Stay more than 8-yards away to avoid Charming Perfume (dispel, poison).
- When possible, interrupt Shadow Bolt Volley to prevent the moderate damage dealt to all players.
Soothe immediately.
- Spectral Sentry
- Deals light damage to random players with Shoot.
- Deals light damage to swaths of players with Multi-Shot.
- Phantom Guest
- Don't stand in front to avoid Goblin Dragon Gun.
- Stay more than 10-yards away to avoid Holy Nova.
- This also heals enemies within 10-yards.
- Interrupt Searing Pain to prevent the moderate damage dealt to the tank.
- Interrupt or dispel Immolate (magic) to prevent the light damage over time dealt to a random player.
- Dispel Curse of Agony (curse) to remove the light damage over time effect.
- Avoid the impact locations of Throw Dynamite.
- Deals light damage over time to random players with Impale.
Soothe immediately.
Maiden of Virtue thru Moroes
- This area includes Phantom Guests, detailed above.
- Undying Servant
- Dispel Shackles of Servitude (magic) to remove the reduced damage dealt and reduced movement speed effect.
- Spectral Attendant
- The tank will be dealing with extra damage from Shadow Blast.
- Interrupt Shadow Rejuvenation to prevent the healing over time on all enemies within 7-yards.
- Arcane Warden
- Interrupt Volatile Charge to prevent the moderate damage dealt to random players.
- Avoid the impact locations of Arcane Eruption (dispel, magic).
Soothe immediately.
- Spectral Retainer
- Cannot be stunned or knocked back.
- Interrupt or purge Oath of Fealty to prevent the mind-controll effect on a random player.
- Skeletal Waiter
- Dispel Brittle Bones (curse) to remove the greatly increased damage taken effect.
Alternate: Maiden of Virtue thru Attumen the Huntsman
A somewhat less popular route goes from Maiden of Virtue to Attumen the Huntsman, before finally going to Moroes.

- Avoid the impact locations of Arcane Orb.
- Coldmist Widow
- Don't stand in front to avoid Web Spray.
- When affected by Caustic Venom, move away from other players and avoid the Caustic Pools left behind.
- Avoid the Webs spread around the ground in this area. Touching a Web spawns a Coldmist Stalker.

- Don't stand in front to avoid Web Spray.
- When affected by Caustic Venom, move away from other players and avoid the Caustic Pools left behind.
- Coldmist Stalker
Moroes thru Attumen the Huntsman
- Spectral Charger
- Don't stand in front when it turns to cast Charge.
- Deals moderate damage to all players with Trampling Stomp.
Soothe immediately.
- Spectral Stable Hand
- The tank will be dealing with Pierce Armor, reducing armor.
- Interrupt Healing Touch to prevent the healing.
- Soothe Whip Rage to remove the increased attack speed effect.
- Spectral Journeyman
- Avoid the impact location of Smash.
- When affected by Burning Brand, stay more than 8-yards away from other players to avoid chaining the damage dealt.
Soothe immediately.
Alternate: Moroes thru Attumen the Huntsman
An alternate route takes players through the kitchen before jumping down near Attumen.
- This area includes Skeletal Waiters, detailed above.
- Skeletal Hound
- Interrupt Howl to prevent enemies within 20-yards being called to fight.
- Dispel Rotting Bite (disease) to remove the moderate damage over time effect.
- Ghostly Chef
- The tank will be dealing with the reduced movement speed from Hamstring.
- Ghostly Baker
- Dispel Roast (magic) to remove the moderate damage over time effect.
- Ghostly Steward
- The tank will be dealing with the extra damage and Stun effect from Drunken Skull Crack.
- Avoid the locations of Ghost Traps.
- Soothe Frenzy to remove the increased Haste and Physical damage dealt effect.
Attumen the Huntsman thru The Curator
- This area includes Forlorn Spirits, and Shrieking Terrors, detailed above.
- Damaged Golem
- Avoid the impact locations of Unstable Energy.
Soothe immediately.
- Abstract Nullifier
- The tank will be dealing with extra damage from Arcane Strike and moderate damage over time from Force Blade.
- When affected by Nullification, run over the nearby purple orb to remove the pacification effect.
Soothe immediately.
- Mana Confluence
- Interrupt Arcane Barrage to prevent the moderate damage to random players.
- Immune to interrupts while the Ablative Shield damage absorption shield is active.
Soothe immediately.
- Mana-Gorged Wyrm
- Interrupt Siphon Energy to prevent the mana drain effect.
- Upon death, restores mana over time to all players with Loose Mana.
Can cause excessive stacks due to their numbers and lower health.
These can cause multiple pools quickly due to their numbers and lower health.
The Curator thru Shade of Medivh
- Infused Pyromancer
- Interrupt Fel Fireball to prevent the moderate damage dealt to the tank.
