This page covers a healer-focused strategy for Magmorax in Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible in Dragonflight. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or contact me.
This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the encounter, combat log information, and Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
General Mechanics and Abilities
Normal and Heroic
- Several abilities, noted below, create Magma Puddles which slowly increase in size over time.
- Players can stand in Magma Puddles to shrink them, but take stacking light damage over time from Searing Heat.
- On Heroic, at 20-stacks of Searing Heat, the affected player is immediately killed by Incinerated.
- Tanks should keep Magmorax out of Magma Puddles.
- While in a Magma Puddle, he gains Blazing Tantrum, which grants Energy over time and deals moderate damage to all players over time with Blazing Tantrum.
- Players can stand in Magma Puddles to shrink them, but take stacking light damage over time from Searing Heat.
- The tanks will be dealing with extra light damage from Incinerating Maws and stacks of Incinerating Maws, which deals stacking light damage over time and greatly increases damage taken from subsequent Incinerating Maws while the effect persists.
- Don't stand in front when he turns to cast Blazing Breath.
- When affected by Molten Spittle, stay more than 10-yards away from other players to avoid chaining the moderate damage dealt when the effect expires. This leaves behind a Magma Puddle.
- Every 100-seconds, deals moderate damage to all players and knocks them back with Overpowering Stomp.
- About every 45-seconds, deals light damage to all players with Igniting Roar and applies a stack of Igniting Roar, dealing increasing light to moderate damage over time the duration of the encounter.
- Gains 1% Energy every 3.5-seconds for the duration of the encounter. At 100% Energy, deals stacking heavy damage over time to all players for the remainder of the encounter with Catastrophic Eruption.
- 100% Energy is reached in 5-mintes 50-seconds, assuming no additional Energy is gained from Magma Puddles.
Mythic Differences
- Magma Puddles can no longer be completely absorbed.
- Stack with the player targeted by Explosive Magma to split the damage dealt and reduce the initial size of the resulting Magma Puddle.
- Players hit take greatly increased Fire damage while the effect persists.
- Five players splitting the damage should be sufficient, with each player taking around 250,000 damage before factoring in any mitigation.

Quick Notes, All Difficulties
The notes below mostly pertain to progression difficulty, meaning if you out-gear the difficulty you're on or use extra healers they may not apply.
- Use Major Cooldowns on
- Overpowering Stomp [occurs every 100-seconds]
- Use Minor Cooldowns
- Igniting Roar [occurs every 45-seconds]
- as-needed to deal with stacks of Searing Heat
- Pre-heal Before (mainly for heal over time classes)
- Overpowering Stomp

- or, keep heal over time effects active due to the persistent damage over time from Igniting Roar
- Potion of Frozen Focus use
- likely between the first and second Overpowering Stomp, about 2-minutes into the encounter
- Other things to watch for
- Healing required increases as the encounter progresses, due to stacks of Igniting Roar.
