Algeth'ar Academy, Healer Guide
Updated 5 months, 1 week ago for patch 10.1 by Preston. View the change log.
This page covers healer-focused strategies for the Algeth'ar Academy dungeon in Dragonflight. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.
This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences as well as Dungeon Journal and combat log information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
Bosses
Below are guides for the bosses in Algeth'ar Academyn, including their abilities, healer notes, and addon settings.
Vexamus
- Don't stand in front to avoid Arcane Expulsion.
- When affected by Mana Bomb, move as far away from other players as possible to drop the resulting Corrupted Mana pool.
- Every 25-seconds, avoid the impact locations of Arcane Orbs.
- Each impact spawns an Arcane Orb that moves towards Vexamus.
- Players should walk into the Orbs to absorb them to prevent them from reaching Vexamus. Doing so deals moderate damage to the player.
- If an Orb reaches Vexamus, it gains 20 Energy and deals moderate damage to all players.
- At 100% Energy, about every 40-seconds if no Arcane Orbs add extra Energy, during Arcane Fissure:
- All players are knocked back.
- Avoid the three impact locations targeted at every player's location.
Mythic Differences
- Dispel Oversurge (magic) to remove the greatly increased damage taken from absorbing Arcane Orbs.
- If no dispel is available, avoid absorbing Arcane Orbs while the effect persists.
Mythic+ Affix Notes
Healing Notes
- Use cooldowns as-needed, most likely during Arcane Orb and while Mana Bombs are active.

Overgrown Ancient
To begin the encounter, the three Vile Lashers nearby must be killed to remove Dormant from the Overgrown Ancient.
- The tank will be dealing with Barkbreaker, greatly increasing Physical damage taken.
- Every 25-seconds, avoid the four successive impact locations of Germinate, targeted at each player's location. Each impact leaves behind a Hungry Lasher.
- Hungry Lasher
- Initially incapacitated by Dormant Lasher.
- Awakened by Burst Forth, detailed below.
- The tank will be dealing with light melee damage once awakened.
- Hungry Lasher
- At 100% Energy, about every 50-seconds, or after two Germinates have been cast, Burst Forth:
- Deals moderate to heavy damage to all players, increased by each Hungry Lasher alive.
- Awakens all Hungry Lashers, causing them to attack players.
- Every 50-seconds, inbetween Burst Forth, avoid the impact location of Branch Out.
- This spawns an Ancient Branch at the impact location.
- Ancient Branch
- Interrupt Healing Touch to prevent the healing.
- Ancient Branch
- This spawns an Ancient Branch at the impact location.
Mythic Differences
- Hungry Lasher
- Dispel Lasher Toxin (poison) as frequently as possible to remove the stacking light damage over time effect.
- Branch Out applies a stack of Splinterbark to all players, dealing light to moderate damage over time.
- Ancient Branch
- Upon death, Abundance heals all players and enemies within 8-yards and removes all Splinterbark stacks.
- Ancient Branch
Mythic+ Affix Notes
Ancient Branches can cause additional orbs to spawn.
High stacks are likely on players affected by Splinterbark.
Healing Notes

- If three points are scored in the Goal of the Rushing Winds:
- Run against the push effect from the wind to avoid being pushed off the edge of the platform.
- Several blue-tinted Gale Force motes are scattered around the edge of the platform. Running over a mote greatly increases Haste and movement speed, and grants immunity to the push effect from the winds.
- Avoid the Roving Cyclones that move around the platform. Players hit take moderate damage and are knocked back.
Mythic Differences
- Firestorm impacts and Roving Cyclones are permanant once a Goal is activated.
- Deafening Screech applies a stack of Sonic Vulnerability to all players, greatly increasing the damage taken from subsequent Deafening Screeches.
- Stacks are removed from all players when three points are scored in a Goal.
Mythic+ Affix Notes
High stacks are likely on the tank due to Savage Peck.
Several affixes can make navigating the encounter's mechanics even more difficult..
Healing Notes
- Use cooldowns as-needed on Deafening Screech.
