Mythrax, Healer Guide
Updated 4 years, 2 months ago for patch 8.1 by Preston. View the change log.
This page covers a healer-focused strategy for Mythrax the Unraveler in Uldir. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.
This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the fight as well as Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
General Mechanics and Abilities
Normal and Heroic
Most of this fight occurs in Stage One, with Stage Two acting as an intermission when Mythrax reaches 75%, 50%, and 25% health.
All Stages
- Players gain stacks of Annihilation when taking damage from most abilities, reducing maximum health.
- Each time a stack is applied, an Existence Fragment will spawn.
- Picking up a Fragment removes two stacks of Annihilation.
- Each time a stack is applied, an Existence Fragment will spawn.
- On Heroic, at 20% health Mythrax uses Essence Shatter, preventing all players from generating Existence Fragments.
Stage One - Oblivion's Call
This stage begins the fight and begins again after each stage two. Mythrax is directly attackable during this stage.
- Don't stand in front of Mythrax to avoid Essence Shear.
- The tanks will be dealing with this and won't be generating Existence Fragment.
- It may be necessary to have non-tanks generate extra Existence Fragment so the tanks can reduce their Annihilation stacks.
- The tanks will be dealing with this and won't be generating Existence Fragment.
- Avoid the line between Mythrax and the player targeted by Obliteration Blast.
- Stay at least 10-yards away from other players to minimize the number of players Charmed by Oblivion Sphere.
- Players that are Charmed can either be knocked away with knock back spells or damaged until they're pushed far enough away.
- Each player freed deals damage to the entire group with Crashing Oblivion.
- When affected by Imminent Ruin, run as far away from the group as possible to reduce the damage the group takes.
- Ideally, you should run the opposite direction of the other affected player, but at worst stay at least 12-yards away from them.
Stage Two - Ancient Awakening
This stage begins when Mythrax reaches 75%, 50%, and 25% health and ends after a set period of time. Mythrax is essentially immune to damage during this stage.
- Don't stand near Mythrax to avoid the knock back and damage from Oblivion Veil.
- At the start of this stage, two Oblivion Spheres spawn and the group takes damage from Xalzaix's Awakening.
- Avoid the Obliteration Beam from Mythrax as it's targeted in a random direction.
- Periodically summons Vision of Madness clones of five random players.
- Target random players with Mind Flay and should be interrupted.
- Summons two N'raqi Destroyers.
- Keep these at least 40-yards away from each other to prevent the reduced damage taken and increased damage dealt from Critical Mass.
- Interrupt Void Volley to prevent the damage dealt to the group.
- The tanks will be dealing with Essence Shear again.
Mythic Differences
Stage One - Oblivion's Call
- Stay at least 8-yards away from other players to prevent extra damage when Xalzaix lands at a location.
- Deals steadily increasing damage to the group with Void Echoes.
- Avoid the line between Xalzaix and the player targeted by Obliteration Blast.
- Must be damaged to 50% health to be forced to retreat.
Stage Two - Ancient Awakening
- Obliteration Beam is targeted on Xalzaix who casts its own Obliteration Beam when hit.
Healing Notes
Quick Notes, All Difficulties
The notes below mostly pertain to progression difficulty, meaning if you out-gear the difficulty you're on or use extra healers they may not apply.

- during Imminent Ruin
- towards the end of the encounter when Annihilation stacks are highest
- Use Minor Cooldowns
- during stage two, as needed, especially if Vision of Madness get out of control
- as-needed throughout the encounter, especially if Annihilation are out of control
- Pre-heal Before (mainly for heal over time classes)
- Imminent Ruin
- entering Stage Two at 75%, 50%, and 25% health
- Potion of Replenishment use
- After Obliteration Blast and Oblivion Sphere in stage one
- Other things to watch for
- Players with high stacks of Annihilation.
Debuffs to Track
Major
- Annihilation increases the healing requirement on players with higher stacks.
DBM Settings
Below are the DBM settings I'll be using for Mythrax the Unraveler in Uldir. You can set them up however you'd like, but these ones should work well as a starting point. Some settings may be Mythic only.
