Queen Azshara, Healer Guide

Updated 3 years, 10 months ago for patch 8.2.5 by Preston. View the change log.

Queen Azshara Dungeon Journal ModelThis page covers a healer-focused strategy for Queen Azshara in The Eternal Palace. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.

This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the encounter, logs information, and Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.

General Mechanics and Abilities

Normal and Heroic

During this encounter players will be fighting against Azshara and her minions while trying to keep the waters of the ocean at bay.

Ancient Wards

  • Three Ancient Wards are used to keep the ocean at bay.
    • Their charge level and relative location is displayed on a new UI element.
  • Players can stand on a Ward to power it up while gaining stacks of Drained Soul, reducing maximum health by 10% per stack.
  • Each Ward that's powered down periodically causes a Pressure Surge, dealing moderate damage to all players.

Stage One - Cursed Lovers

This stage begins the encounter and ends when Aethanel and Cyranus are killed.

  • Aethanel and Cyranus
    • The tanks will be dealing with these changing between periods of Painful Memories and Longing.
      • During Painful Memories, the bosses must not have line of sight on eachother.
      • During Longing, the bosses must have line of sight on each other.
      • Failing either of these requirements gives the bosses Torment until they're positioned properly.
        • Additionally, when one of the bosses dies the other will gain Torment.
      • Each time the bosses change states, they leave behind a Cursed Heart pool.
    • Aethanel
      • The tank will be dealing with Cold Blast.
        • The fourth stack of this applies Frozen and shortly after Ice Shard deals a heavy amount of damage.
      • Avoid the impact locations of Lightning Orbs as they bounce around the area.
      • Interrupt Chain Lightning to prevent the damage dealt.
    • Cyranus
  • Overzealous Hulk
    • Use Ground Pound on Ancient Wards, dealing light damage to all players.
    • These become Infuriated and immune to crowd-control after being crowd-controlled once.
  • Queen Azshara
    • Harasses players from the air during this stage.
    • Arcane Orbs must be soaked by players to reduce their size or to remove them completely before they detonate. Players soaking an orb take moderate damage over time.
    • Drain Ancient Ward reduces the power of a nearby Ward over time.
      • The Ward being drained will flash red on the UI element.
    • Before Beckon, position yourself as far away from the center of the area as possible, ideally with a Cursed Heart pool between you and the center.
      • If affected players reach the center of the room, they take moderate damage over time from Crushing Depths until they're freed by killing the bubble.

Intermission One - Queen's Decree

This stage begins when Aethanel and Cyranus are killed and ends when the Arcane Orbs vanish.

  • Arcane Orbs must be soaked by players to reduce their size or to remove them completely before they detonate. Players soaking an orb take moderate damage over time.
  • Each player is given Queen's Decrees they must follow (Normal - up to 1, Heroic - up to 2).
    • Failure to follow a Decree grants a stack of Sanction, dealing increasing damage over time with each stack.
    • Suffer! - affected players must soak an Arcane Orb.
    • Obey! - affected players must not soak any Arcane Orbs.
    • Stand Together! - affected players must stack together.
    • Stand Alone - affected players must stand away from other players.
    • On Heroic, Stay! - affected players must not move.

Stage Two - Hearts Unleashed

This stage begins following the first intermission and ends when Azshara reaches 70% health.

  • The previously inactive Ancient Ward in the center of the room becomes a Ward of Power, increasing enemies' strength as the Ward gains power.
  • Queen Azshara
    • The tanks will be dealing with Arcane Jolt, which applies a stack of Arcane Vulnerability and will eventually force a tank switch.
    • The tanks will also be managing Titanic Machinations.
      • This will drain power from the nearest Ancient Ward or give power to the Ward of Power.
    • Targets random players with Arcane Missiles through Arcane Mastery.
    • Before Beckon, position yourself as far away from Azshara as possible, ideally with a Cursed Heart pool between you and the boss.
      • If affected players reach the boss, they will be mind-controlled and the absorb shield on them must be damaged to free them.
    • During Arcane Detonation, break line of sight on Azshara to avoid the damage.
    • When affected by Arcane Burst (dispel, magic), break line of sight on other players to prevent them from taking damage when the effect expires or is dispelled.
      • On Heroic, Queen Azshara must be out of line of sight too, otherwise she applies a second Arcane Burst next time the ability is used.
  • Azshara's Devoted
    • Can be crowd-controlled.
    • Will attempt a Final Sacrifice to add power to the Ward of Power.
  • Azshara's Indomitable
    • Cannot be crowd-controlled.
    • Will move towards the Ward of Power and attempt a Final Sacrifice to add a large amount of power to the Ward.

Intermission Two - Adoration

This intermission begins when Azshara reaches 70% health and ends when she finishes summoning minions.

  • Azshara's minions will attempt to destroy the Ancient Wards.
  • Arcane Orbs and Queen's Decrees are also present in this intermission.
  • On Heroic, Queen's Decree also includes:
    • March! - affected players much continually move.

Stage Three - Song of the Tides

This stage begins following the second intermission.

Stage Four - My Palace is Broken

Healing Notes

Quick Notes, All Difficulties

The notes below mostly pertain to progression difficulty, meaning if you out-gear the difficulty you're on or use extra healers they may not apply.

Debuffs to Track

Major

  • Frozen freezes the tank and causes them to take heavy damage immediately after.
  • Arcane Burst (magic) can be dispelled in a controlled manner.
  • System Shock causes players to need critical healing over time.

Minor

 DBM Settings

Below are the DBM settings I'll be using for Queen Azshara. You can set them up however you'd like, but these ones should work well as a starting point. Some settings may be Mythic only.
