Opulence, Healer Guide
Updated 4 years, 3 months ago for patch 8.1.5 by Preston. View the change log.
This page covers a healer-focused strategy for Opulence in Battle of Dazar'alor. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.
This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the encounter as well as Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
General Mechanics and Abilities
Normal and Heroic
This is a two stage encounter during which players will be splitting into two groups to face the Guardian's gauntlet before facing Opulence in the final stage.
This is a "flashback" encounter for Horde players, meaning they'll be completing it as Alliance races.
Stage One - Raiding the Vault
During this stage, players are making their way through the guarded and trapped hallways of the vault.
Crown Jewels
Several Crown Jewels are available for players to pick up when their respective Guardian makes it to the hallway section at 40% health. Each player may only take one jewel.
- Tanks
- Diamond of the Unshakeable Protector grants a 300% max-health absorption shield that refreshes every 30-seconds.
- Healers
- Tailwind Sapphire causes healing spells to grant the targeted player stacks of Tailwinds, increasing damage by 5% per stack.
- At five stacks, grants Soothing Breeze, increasing damage and healing done by 100%.
- Amethyst of the Shadow King increases haste by 50% and causes healing spells to grant the targeted player Shadow-Touched.
- Any time an affected player takes shadow damage, Dark Knowledge restores mana to all players with in 10-yards.
- Tailwind Sapphire causes healing spells to grant the targeted player stacks of Tailwinds, increasing damage by 5% per stack.
- DPS
- Ruby of Foucused Animus causes attacks to apply a stack of Focused Animus once per second.
- Topaz of Brilliant Sunlight grants stacks of Indandescence when standing away from other players.
- At 100 stacks, grants Grossly Incandescent! to the player and all nearby players, increasing critical strike chance.
- Emerald of Earthen Roots grants stacks of Earthen Roots when standing still, increasing damage dealt.
- Opal of Unleashed Rage grants stacks of Unleashed Rage for each different enemy attacked.
- On Heroic, picking up a jewel deals fatal damage after 30-seconds from Thief's Bane.
- This should be countered by a healer with Amethyst of the Shadow King.
Enemies and Traps
Several enemies and traps line the hallways of the vault.
- The Hand of In'zashi
- Avoid the location of Crush depending on which hand raises.
- When affected by Volatile Charge, move away from other players to drop the resulting electrical charge.
- Every 10% health, moves to the next section of the hallway and Consuming Flame engulfs the previous section in Creeping Blaze.
- On Heroic, at 30% health, Overload deals light damage to random players and empowers Volatile Charge.
- Yalat's Bulwark
- Avoid the location of Crush depending on which hand raises.
- Avoid the fire cones from Flames of Punishment as it rotates.
- Every 10% health, moves to the next section of the hallway and Consuming Flame engulfs the previous section in Creeping Blaze.
- On Heroic, at 30% health, Overload deals light damage to random players and empowers Flames of Punishment.
- Traps
- Avoid the Flame Jets paths that come from the walls.
- When targeted by Ruby Beam, run away from the group to drop the resulting Scorching Ground patches.
- Pulse-quickening Toxin deals steadily increasing damage to the affected player.
- If possible, let the affected player drop below 50% health to gain Quickened Pulse.
- Dispel Hex of Lethargy (magic) to prevent the damage while moving.
Stage Two - Toppling the Guardian
Players now engage directly with Opulence.
- Don't engage Opulence while hallway Guardians are alive to avoid the increased health and damage buff from Hoard Power.
- When affected by Liquid Gold, run away from the group to drop the resulting Molten Gold pool.
- Spirit of Gold periodically join the encounter and move towards the edge of the room.
- These should be killed as quickly as possible.
- If these reach the edge of the room and begin Channel Gold, avoid the impact locations of Gold Burst.
- Wail of Greed deals steadily increasing damage to the group over 10-seconds.
- Upon completion, grants Opluence a stack of Greed.
- On Heroic, stack with the player affected by Coin Shower to split the damage.
- On Heroic, the tanks will be dealing with heavy damage from Coin Sweep.
Mythic Differences
Stage One - Raiding the Vault
Enemies and Traps
- Traps
- Chaotic Displacement periodically swaps players between hallways.
Stage Two - Toppling the Guardian
- Surging Gold periodically increases the size of Molten Gold pools.
- If Spirit of Gold enters a Molten Gold pool, it heals over time from Golden Radiance.
Healing Notes
Quick Notes, All Difficulties
The notes below mostly pertain to progression difficulty, meaning if you out-gear the difficulty you're on or use extra healers they may not apply.
- Use Major Cooldowns on
- Use Minor Cooldowns
- on Liquid Gold
- as-needed on Coin Shower
- as-needed during Stage One when Guardian abilities and traps overlap and make damage unavoidable
- Pre-heal Before (mainly for heal over time classes)
- Potion of Replenishment use
- at the beginning of Stage Two
- Other things to watch for
- Players affected by Pulse-quickening Toxin.
- Players soaking Coin Shower.
Debuffs to Track
Major
- Hex of Lethargy should be dispelled quickly to prevent the damage while moving.
- (Optional) Pulse-quickening Toxin causes players to need steadily increasing healing over time, however, virtually all players will be affected by this at once so it may be less important to track.
Minor
- Volatile Charge causes players to need additional healing.
- Liquid Gold causes players to need additional healing.
DBM Settings
Below are the DBM settings I'll be using for Opulence. You can set them up however you'd like, but these ones should work well as a starting point. Some settings may be Mythic only.
