This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the encounter as well as Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
General Mechanics and Abilities
Normal and Heroic
This is a multi-stage encounter during which players will be fighting Jaina Proudmoore across the sea.
This is a "flashback" encounter for Alliance players, meaning they'll be completing it as Horde races.
All Stages
- Taking Frost damage applies stacks of Chilling Touch.
- At 20 stacks, if players drop below 80% health they're Frozen Solid, unhealable, and the block of ice must be killed to free them.
- Stacks can be removed using various mechanics in the different stages, noted below.
Stage One - Burning Seas
This stage begins the fight and ends when Jaina reaches 60% health.
- Kul Tiran Ships
- Alliance ships will periodically move next to the ship you're on, click the ballista on the corresponding side to shoot the ship and force it to retreat.
- Kul Tiran Corsairs
- Avoid the impact locations of Bombard and the resulting Searing Pitch.
- Standing in Searing Pitch slowly removes stacks of Chilling Touch.
- Avoid the impact locations of Bombard and the resulting Searing Pitch.
- Kul Tiran Marine
- Fixates on a random player with Marked Target.
- Barrels dropped by Set Charge must be picked up and thrown overboard using the Extra Action Button.
- Lady Jaina Proudmoore
- The tanks will be dealing with Ice Shard.
- On Heroic, applies a stacking debuff that increases damage taken from subsequent Ice Shards.
- When affected by Avalanche, move near Searing Pitch to clear them off the ship while avoiding the impact locations.
- Dispel Grasp of Frost (magic).
- Avoid the large Freezing Blast cone when Jaina turns to cast it.
- When Ring of Ice is cast, stay at least 30-yards away from Jaina to avoid being frozen.
- When outside the Ring, players can stand in Searing Pitch before the cast ends to avoid the root effect.
- On Heroic, at 70% health Time Warp increases Jaina's haste by 30%.
- The tanks will be dealing with Ice Shard.
Intermission One - Howling Winds
This intermission begins when Jaina reaches 60% health and ends when players reach Jaina and interrupt her.
- Howling Winds obscures vision.
- Avoid the Glacial Shards traveling through the area.
- Avoid the Blistering Tornadoes.
Stage Two - Frozen Wrath
This stage begins immediately after Jaina is interrupted and ends when Jaina reaches 40% health.
- Arctic Ground gradually applies stacks of Chilling Touch.
- Proudmoore Flagship
- When targeted by Broadside, move away from the group.
- Alternatively, this can be used to break the Refractive Ice encasing Unexploded Ordnance.
- This triggers Burning Explosion which grants nearby players Warmth, clearing stacks of Chilling Touch, before exploding after 15-seconds and dealing heavy damage to any player still within 20-yards.
- Alternatively, this can be used to break the Refractive Ice encasing Unexploded Ordnance.
- When affected by Siegebreaker Blast, run as far away from the group as possible to reduce the damage dealt.
- When targeted by Broadside, move away from the group.
- Lady Jaina Proudmoore
- Ice Shard continues in this stage.
- Avalanche now only affects the tanks.
- Avoid the impact locations as well as the Hand of Frost shards that radiate outwards.
- Avoid the Glacial Ray beam targeted towards a random player.
- Avoid the impact locations of Icefall as it travels in a line across the room.
Intermission Two - Flash Freeze
This intermission begins when Jaina reaches 40% health and ends when Jaina's Flash Freeze channel ends.
- Jaina teleports to the center of the room and channels Flash Freeze, applying one stack of Chilling Touch to all players every 15-seconds.
- A zone of ice to slowly creeps out from Jaina. Coming in contact with the ice instantly afflicts players with Frozen Solid.
- At the end of the channel, Jaina instantly kills all Frozen Solid players.
- The Ice Wall at one side of the room must be killed to enter a safe zone, which contains Jaina's Tide Elemental.
- Avoid the impact locations of Arcane Barrage.
- Jaina's Tide Elemental
- When affected by Heart of Frost, stay away from other players.
- At 100% Energy, stay 12-yards away from the Elemental to avoid Frost Nova (dispel, magic).
- On Heroic, interrupt Water Bolt Volley.
Stage Three - Daughter of the Sea
This stage begins after Jaina's Tide Elemental is killed and ends when Jaina is killed.
- Arctic Ground continues to gradually apply stacks of Chilling Touch.
- Proudmoore Flagship
- Continues to use Broadside and Siegebreaker Blast.
- Lady Jaina Proudmoore
- Ice Shard, Glacial Ray, and Icefall continue in this stage.
- Don't stand in front of Jaina to avoid Crystalline Dust.
- Avoid Shattering Lances traveling from Jaina to any players that are Frozen Solid.
- Prismatic Image creates a copy of Jaina, these copies mimic her spells.
- On Heroic, Orb of Frost should be soaked as it travels away from Jaina to reduce the stacks of Chilling Touch it applies to all players upon expiring.
Mythic Differences
All Stages
- Gathering Blizzard forces players to stand near each other to avoid being frozen by Freezing Blood.
- The power of the storm will likely be tracked by the Encounter Power Bar on the UI.
- Below 50 power, players must be near at least one other player.
- Between 50 and 75 power, players must be near at least three other players.
- Above 75 power, players must be near at least five other players.
Stage One - Burning Seas
- Lady Jaina Proudmoore
- Frozen Siege freezes a ballista and the ice block must be killed before it can be operated again.
Intermission One - Howling Winds
- Several Icebound Images must be killed to remove Arctic Armor from Jaina.
Intermission Two - Flash Freeze
- Jaina's Tide Elemental
- Upon death, now splits into smaller copies of itself due to Splitting Frost.
Healing Notes
Quick Notes, All Difficulties
The notes below mostly pertain to progression difficulty, meaning if you out-gear the difficulty you're on or use extra healers they may not apply.
- Use Major Cooldowns
- during Stage Two when Chilling Touch stacks are high
- during Stage Three as Chilling Touch stacks grow steadily
- Use Minor Cooldowns
- Pre-heal Before (mainly for heal over time classes)
- Potion of Replenishment use
- heading into stage three
- Other things to watch for
- Players with high stacks of Chilling Touch.
- Set Charge barrels not being thrown overboard.
- On Mythic, players out of position as Gathering Blizzard gets increasingly potent.
Debuffs to Track
Major
- Frozen Solid causes players to need moderate healing over time.
Minor
- Several abilities cause players to need additional healing
- Searing Pitch
- Broadside
- Heart of Frost
- (Optional) Chilling Touch, generally these stacks will be kept under control by the affected players or they'll be out of control on the entire raid, so tracking it could just clutter raid frames.
- (Optional) Marked Target, ideally the affected player will never be hit.
- Frost Nova (dispel, magic) can be dispelled to help the affected player avoid another mechanic.
DBM Settings
Below are the DBM settings I'll be using for Lady Jaina Proudmoore. You can set them up however you'd like, but these ones should work well as a starting point. Some settings may be Mythic only.
