Operation: Mechagon, Healer Guide

This page covers healer-focused strategies for the Operation: Mechagon dungeon in Battle for Azeroth. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.

This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences as well as Dungeon Journal and combat log information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.



 

Healer ModelBosses

Below are guides for the bosses in Operation: Mechagon, including their abilities, healer notes, and addon settings.

King Gobbamak Dungeon Journal ModelKing Gobbamak

  • At 100% Energy, stand within 8-yards of the tank to split the damage dealt by Charged Smash.
    • Players hit gain Electrical Charge and should move within 6-yards of a piece of Stolen Tech (detailed below) to activate it and remove the effect.
  • Stolen Tech
    • Activated Stolen Tech deals damage to Scrapbone Grunters
    • Stolen Scrapbot
      • Spins around the area Thrashing Grunters.
    • Stolen Shock Coil
      • Zaps nearby Grunters.
  • During Rumble, avoid the impact locations of Cave In.
    • This deals moderate damage over time to all players.
  • Periodically summons Scrapbone Grunters from the nearby caves and mountains.
    • These target random players with Rampaging.

  • Scrapbone Grunters can cause additional orbs to spawn.
  • Players will frequently be missing health, making catching up on stacks difficult.
  • Stacking for Charged Smash can be difficult depending on timing.

Gunker Dungeon Journal ModelGunker

  • The tank should always stay in melee range to avoid Sludge Bolt being cast.
  • Most of Gunker's abilities leave Toxic Goop patches behind.
    • Touching a Toxic Goop patch applies Gooped (dispel, disease), dealing moderate damage over time and incapacitating the affected player until it is killed or dispelled.
  • During Toxic Wave, stand inside a Squirt Bot's Sanitizing Spray (detailed below) to avoid the wave.
  • During Coalesce, be prepared to avoid Toxic Goop patches being pulled toward Gunker, while also running against the pull.
  • Squirt Bots circle the area, removing Toxic Goop patches within 5-yards of themselves with Sanitizing Spray.
    • Squirt Bots can also be affected by Gooped (dispel, disease) and should be freed whenever possible.
  • Avoid the impact locations of Splatter.
    • This always applies Gooped (dispel, disease) to one Squirt Bot.
  • Toxic Fumes deals light damage over time to all players for the duration of the encounter.

  • Be aware of players that are Gooped (dispel, disease) to heal or dispel them.
  • Use cooldowns as-needed, especially during Toxic Wave and Coalesce.

    • Affects players: Gooped (dispel, disease)
    • Affects Squirt Bots: Gooped (dispel, disease)

Healer ModelMythic+ Notes

  • Squirt Bots seem to spawns orbs, despite being friendly.
  • Players will frequently be missing health, making catching up on stacks difficult.
  • Several affixes can make staying in Sanitizing Spray difficult.

Trixie and Naeno Dungeon Journal ModelsTrixie and Naeno

During this encounter, players will be fighting against Trixie and Naeno at the same time.

  • Trixie "The Tech" Tazer
    • Periodically moves to a new location with Electric Slide.
    • Interrupt Taze to prevent the light damage and light damage over time on a random player.
    • When targeted by (302681) , stand in a Smoke Cloud (noted below) to prevent the moderate damage over time effect.
    • Periodically Jump Starts Naeno's Mechacycle, allowing him to pilot it again.
    • Upon death, grants Naeno Turbo Boost, causing all attacks to deal heavy damage to all players.
  • Naeno Megacrash
    • Don't stand in front when he turns to cast Bolt Buster.
    • Avoid the impact location of Roadkill.
    • While piloting the Mechacycle:
      • Don't stand in front when it turns to cast Pedal to the Metal.
      • Stay more than 10-yards away during Burnout.
        • This leaves behind a Smoke Cloud, used to avoid (302681) , detailed above.
        • Additionally, the Mechacycle Crashes and must be Jump Started by Trixie.
    • Upon death, grants Trixie Super Boost, greatly increasing haste.

  • Players targeted by (302681) take critical damage over time if they fail to make it to a Smoke Cloud.

HK-8 Aerial Oppression Unit Dungeon Journal ModelHK-8 Aerial Oppression Unit

This encounter alternates between stages until HK-8 is killed.

Stage One - Fire At Will!

This stage begins the encounter and ends when the Tank Buster Mk1 is killed. It begins again after HK-8 finished going Haywire in stage two.

  • HK-8 is not attackable during this stage.
  • Players must stay within the large blue circle to avoid Anti-Tresspassing Teleport pulling them back in.
  • Avoid the line of impact locations from Cannon Blast.
  • The Reinforcement Relay periodically warps in reinforcements.
    • Tank Buster MK1
      • Only one of these spawns over the duration of the stage.
      • The tank will be dealing with Wreck.
      • Deals heavy damage over time to random players with Fulminating Zap.
    • Walkie Shockie X1
      • Spawns in groups of three.
      • Susciptible to most crowd control, snare, and knock back effects.
      • Stay more than 5-yards away to avoid Static Discharge and the Clinging Static lightning patches left behind.
      • At 0% Energy, stay more than 6-yards away to avoid Self-Destruct.

Stage Two - Annihilation!

This stage begins when the Tank Buster MK1 is killed in stage one and ends after HK-8 goes Haywire for 30-seconds. It begins again each time the Tank Buster MK1 is killed in stage one.

  • Leave the center courtyard area to avoid the expanding Annihilation Blast area.
    • This deals light damage over time to all players with Annihilation Pulse, regardless of where they are.
  • One of two Overcharge Stations become active, either one up the path to the north, or one up the path to the south-east.
    • Players must pass through a gauntlet of traps to reach the Overcharge Station.
    • Avoid the wire mesh Vent Blast areas on the circular platforms to avoid being stunned.
    • Avoid the Sentry Array beams as they rotate around the circular platforms, players hit are teleported to the beginning of the gauntlet by Anti-Tresspassing Teleport.
    • Avoid the Sentry Bots as they move down the pathways, players hit are teleported to the beginning of the gauntlet by Anti-Tresspassing Teleport.
    • Upon reaching the Overcharge Station, right-click on it to begin channeling Hack and reducing the Station's Energy.
      • Failing to deplete the Staton's Energy within 1.5-minutes causes Annihilation Blast to deal fatal damage to all players.
  • When the Overcharge Station reaches 0% Energy, HK-8 goes Haywire and falls to the ground, taking greatly increased damage for 30-seconds.

  • Use cooldowns as-needed during the gauntlet in stage two.
  • Help DPS while HK-8 is going Haywire in stage two.

  • Players affected by Fulminating Zap may be difficult to reduce stacks on.
  • Several affixes can make the gauntlet in stage two more difficult to navigate.

Tussle Tonks Dungeon Journal ModelTussle Tonks

  • The Platinum Pummeler
    • Protected by 3-stacks of Platinum Plating, reducing damage taken by 33% per stack.
      • Stacks are removed by Piston Smasher hammers at the edge of the arena.
    • During Whirling Edge, stay more than 5-yards away to avoid the heavy damage.
    • Avoid the loction of mines laid by Lay Mine.
  • Gnomercy 4.U.
    • Stay more than 6-yards away from other players to avoid chaining the damage and knock back effect from Foe Flipper.
    • During Vent Jets, don't stand in front to avoid the critical damage over time.
      • Additionally, all players take moderate damage over time regardless of where they are.
    • When targeted by Maximum Thrust, point the boss towards the arena wall so it stuns itself.
  • Tussle Tonk Arena
    • Stay more than 4-yards away from Piston Smasher hammers at the edge of the arena.
    • Avoid the grid-like crevices in the arena floor as Buzz Saws randomly move through them, knocking back players hit.

  • The tank may end up out of range while moving The Platinum Pummerler to Piston Smashers.

K.U.-J.0. Dungeon Journal ModelK.U.-J.0.

  • The tank will be dealing with stacks of Blazing Chomp (dispel, magic).
    • When dispelled, all players take light to moderate damage depending on the number of stacks.
    • This can generally be dispelled as soon as it's applied due to the slow rate stacks are applied.
  • Avoid the impact locations of Air Drop crates.
    • When hit by (292022) or (291946) , the crates turn red and explode as a Junk Bomb when hit a second time by (292022) or (291946) .
  • When targeted by Explosive Leap, move more than 8-yards away from other players and Junk Bombs.
  • During Venting Flames, break line of sight on the boss using an Air Drop crate that isn't already red and primed to be a Junk Bomb.

  • Use cooldowns as-needed, especially later in the fight when there are more Self-Trimming Hedge blades active.

King Mechagon Dungeon Journal ModelKing Mechagon

  • The tank will be dealing with Pulse Blast.
  • During Giga-Zap, avoid the path from Mechagon through a random player. Players hit take moderate damage, moderate damage over time, and take greatly increased damage from subsequent Giga-Zaps.
  • During Recalibrate, avoid the impact locations and paths of Plasma Orbs.
  • During Take Off!, stay at least 8-yards away from Mechagon.
    • Once in the air, Cutting Beam deals heavy damage over time to players beneath Mechagon, and light damage over time to all players regardless of where they are.

Stage Two - Omega Buster

  • The tank must stay in melee range to prevent Protocol: Ninety-Nine from dealing heavy damage to all players.
  • Recalibrate and Plasma Orbs continue in this stage.
  • Giga-Zap now targets three players in succession and has a wider path.
  • During Magneto-Arm, run against the pull to stay as far away as possible to lessen the damage taken.

Healer ModelTrash Mobs

Below are notes for the trash mobs in Operation: Mechagon. Mechagon has an open layout while players are in the Junkyard, followed by a more linear layout inside the Workshop. Early trash is grouped by the boss it's near while later trash is ordered as if you're completing the bosses as they're listed above

Helpful Bots

The Junkyard area has three types of helpful bots scattered around, which players can click on to gain a beneficial effect. Players can have each of the three beneficial effects active at once, but all of the effects are lost upon death.

  • Shock Bot
    • Grants Conductive, giving damaging abilities a chance to deal additional damage with Zap.
  • Grease Bot
    • Grants Greased, increasing Haste and movement speed.
  • Welding Bot
    • Grants Reinforced, increasing maximum health and healing received.

King Gobbamak Area

  • Scrapbone Shaman
    • Interrupt or purge Stoneskin to prevent the reduced damage taken effect.
    • Interrupt or dispel Grasping Hex (curse) to prevent the damage over time and root effect.
  • Scrapbone Grinder
    • The tank will be dealing with extra damage from Skullcracker.
    • Interrupt or soothe Enrage to prevent the increased Fire damage dealt effect.
  • Scrapbone Bully
    • The tank will be dealing with extra damage from Headbutt.
    • Don't stand in front when it turns to cast Shockwave.
    • Interrupt or soothe Enrage to prevent the increased Fire damage dealt effect.
    • Soothe immediately.
  • Scrapbone Grunter
    • Deal moderate melee damage to random players.
    • Do not cause stacks.
  • Saurolisk Boneripper
    • The tank will be dealing with extra damage and light damage over time from Ripping Slash
  • Malfunctioning Scrapbot
    • Exhaust clouds obscure vision into and out of the cloud.
    • Stay more than 5-yards away to avoid Gyro-Scrap.
    • Upon death, stay more than 8-yards away to avoid Self-Destruct Protocol.
    • Soothe immediately.

Trixie and Naeno Area

  • This area includes Malfunctioning Scrapbots, detailed above.
  • Heavy Scrapbot
  • Walkie Shockie X1
  • Pistonhead Scrapper
    • The tank will be dealing with several abilities.
  • Pistonhead Blaster
  • Pistonhead Mechanic
    • Interrupt Repair to prevent the healing.
    • Interrupt Overclock to prevent the increased Haste effect on nearby mechanical enemies.
    • Stay more than 10-yards away to avoid the interrupt from Shield Bash.
  • Weaponized Crawler
    • When targeted by Scrap Cannon, point it away from other players.
    • Deals moderate damage over time to all players with Shock Coil/Zap.
    • Soothe immediately.
  • Mechagon Prowler
    • Targets random players with Pounce, dealing moderate damage over time.
    • Soothe immediately.

Gunker Area

  • Three Toxic Monstrosities must be killed in this area to free the Squirt Bots and spawn Gunker.
  • Mechagon Trooper
    • The tank will be dealing with light damage over time from Nanoslicer.
  • Mechagon Renormalizer
    • Interrupt or purge Enlarge to prevent the increased health and damage dealt.
    • Interrupt or dispel Shrink (magic), to prevent the affected player from being Trampled by other players.
  • Toxic Monstrosity
    • During Consume, run against the pull to stay out of the ever-expanding Consuming Slime (dispel, disease) pool.
    • Soothe immediately.
  • Gnome-Eating Slime / Gnome-Eating Droplet
  • Slime Elemental
    • Don't stand in front when it turns to cast Slimewave.
    • Dispel Slimebolt (poison) to remove the decreased movement speed effect.
  • Toxic Lurker
    • Interrupt Suffocating Smog (dispel, disease) to prevent the Stun effect and damage over time.

HK-8 Aerial Oppression Unit Area

  • This area includes Mechagon Troopers and Mechagon Renormalizers, detailed above.
  • Anodized Coilbearer
  • Mechagon Cavalry
    • Avoid the impact location of Charge.
    • During Rapid Fire, don't stand in front as it slowly rotates around to avoid the heavy damage.
    • Soothe immediately.

HK-8 Aerial Suppression Unit thru Tussle Tonks

  • Inside the Tussle Tonk arena, avoid the grid-like crevices in the arena floor as Buzz Saws will randomly move through them, knocking back players hit.
  • Bomb Tonk
    • Interrupt Detonate to prevent the heavy damage dealt to all players.
  • Rocket Tonk
  • Strider Tonk

Tussle Tonks thru K.U.-J.0.

  • Waste Processing Unit
  • Living Waste
    • Upon death, break line of sight to avoid the heavy damage from Volatile Waste.
    • Can cause excessive stacks due to the number of these in each group.
  • Junkyard D.0.G.
    • The tank will be dealing with extra damage from Metallic Jaws.
    • Dispel Flaming Refuse (magic) to remove the moderate damage over time effect.
    • Soothe immediately.

K.U.-J.0. thru Machinist's Garden

  • This area begins with a conveyor belt gauntlet where players must avoid Flame Jets on the walls.
  • Following the gauntlet is small event in the town square, during which King Mechagon will spawn several waves of enemies.
    • Mechagon Tinkerer
    • Defense Bot MK I
      • Dispel Arcing Zap (magic) to remove the light damage over time effect.
      • Soothe immediately.
    • Defense Bot MK III
      • Dispel Arcing Zap (magic) to remove the light damage over time effect.
      • Purge Defensive Countermeasures to remove the damage absorption effect.
      • Deals heavy damage over time to all players with Short Out.
      • Soothe immediately.
    • Blastatron X-80
  • After the event, players must navigate a gauntlet of Detect-o-Bots.
    • Avoid the blue stealth detection circles around the Bots.
    • Standing on a Stealthy Steam Vent makes players immune to detection by Detect-o-Bots.
  • Mechagon Mechanic
    • Interrupt Tune Up to prevent the healing.
    • Interrupt or purge Overclock to prevent the increased Haste effect on mechanical enemies.
  • Workshop Defender
    • The tank will be dealing with moderate damage over time from Chainblade.

Machinist's Garden thru King Mechagon

  • This area includes Workshop Defenders, Mechagon Tinkerers, and Defense Bot MK III, detailed above.
  • Spider Tank
