Kings' Rest, Healer Guide

Updated 3 years, 3 months ago for patch 8.3 by Preston. View the change log.

This page covers healer-focused strategies for the Kings' Rest dungeon. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.

This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences as well as Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.

 Bosses

Below are guides for the bosses in Kings' Rest, including their abilities, healer notes, and addon settings.

The Golden Serpent Dungeon Journal Model The Golden Serpent

  • The tank will be dealing with Tail Thrash.
  • When Serpentine Gust is being cast, stay 15-yards away from the boss.
  • When affected by Spit Gold, move away from the group and the boss to drop the resulting Molten Gold pool.
    • These pools should be grouped together to make managing them easier.
  • Lucre's Call turns all Molten Gold pools into Animated Gold.
    • Kill the Animated Golds before they reach The Golden Serpent and grant it a stack of Luster.

 Healing Notes

  • Use Cooldowns if the boss gains high stacks of Luster.
  • Watch where players are running with Spit Gold as they could run out of range or line of sight.

  • The tank will be dealing with Blade Combo.
  • Avoid the Gale Slash vortexes as they move around the room.
  • When affected by Quaking Leap, move away from other players to reduce their damage taken.

    • Avoid the impact locations of Impaling Spear as their impact locations move around the room.
      • As you're walking into the room, if you fight the boss on the right side you can avoid most of the Spears because they start in that area and then move clockwise around the room.

 Healing Notes

  • Cooldowns will likely be needed towards the end of the fight as more mechanics are active.

 Trash Mobs

Below are notes for the trash mobs in Kings' Rest. King's Rest has a relatively linear layout. The trash below is ordered as if you're completing the bosses in the order they're listed above.

Entrance thru The Golden Serpent

  • Animated Guardian
  • Inside the room with the Serpentine Seal, make sure the entire group is near the Seal before clicking it as it causes several groups of enemies to spawn in the room.
  • Shadow-Borne Warrior
  • Shadow-Borne Witch Doctor
  • Shadow-Borne Champion

The Golden Serpent thru Mchimba the Embalmer

  • One of the first rooms you enter contains several small encounters. These appear to happen in a random order.
    • Encounter One
      • Queen Wasi
        • Damage or dispel the player affected by Seduction (purge) to break the Charm effect.
      • King Timalji
        • Kite Timalji if targeted during Bladestorm and avoid the whirlwind effect.
    • Encounter Two
      • Queen Patlaa
      • Skeletal Hunting Raptor
        • Leaps to random players with Hunting Leap, dealing heavy damage to anyone nearby.
    • Encounter Three
      • King A'akul
        • Dispel Hidden Blade (poison) to minimize the number of pools it creates.
      • Bloodsworn Agent
    • Encounter Four
  • Purification Construct
  • Embalming Fluid
    • Avoid the impact locations of Splash Fluid and the resulting pools.
    • Taking damage from these directly or from Splash Fluid applies a stack of Embalming Fluid (dispel, poison), dealing steadily increasing damage and slowing movement speed.

Mchimba the Embalmer thru The Council of Tribes

  • Spectral Hex Priest
    • Interrupt or dispel Hex (curse).
  • Spectral Berserker
  • Spectral Witch Doctor

 Mythic+ Notes

In this section you'll find notes about certain interactions bosses and trash mobs have with the Mythic+ difficulty increase or certain affixes that make them more troublesome than normal.

The Golden Serpent

  • Spit Gold deals significant damage to affected players during Tyrannical and at higher key levels.

Mchimba the Embalmer

The Council of Tribes

Trash Mobs

  • Minion of Zul
    • Can apply and receive Bolstering, be sure they're not pulled with other enemies.
  • Shadow-Borne Witch Doctor
  • The gauntlet room following The Golden Serpent is particularly difficult with Fortified.
  • Embalming Fluid
    • Can quickly get out of hand during Bolstering if too many are pulled at once or they're not killed evenly.
  • Shadow of Zul
    • Shadow of Zul is particularly difficult with Fortified.
