Helya, Healer Guide
Updated 6 years, 6 months ago for patch 7.2 by Preston. View the change log.
This page covers a healer-focused strategy for Helya in the Trial of Valor. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.
This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the fight as well as Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
General Mechanics and Abilities
Normal and Heroic
This is a three-stage fight where you alternate between fighting Helya and her minions.
Stage One - low tide (helya)
During this Stage, you're fighting against Helya. This stage ends when Helya reaches 65% health.
- If no one is in melee range of Helya, she will cast Corrosive Nova.
- Avoid taking consecutive hits from Orb of Corruption.
- Avoid the Corrupted Slicer beams that appear between the Orbs.
- Bilewater Breath is a frontal cone attack you should avoid.
- Being hit by this will apply the Bilewater Redox debuff.
- This attack also spawns several Bilewater Slimes.
- The slimes need to be DPS'd as low as possible before they use Bilewater Liquefaction.
- Avoid the pools the Slimes leave behind after the explode.
- Be prepared to stand in the impact area of Tentacle Strike to help split the damage.
- If you're affected by Taint of the Sea, move away from the group to be dispelled.
- Avoid the resulting Tainted Essence clouds.
Stage Two - from the mists (adds)
This Stage begins when Helya is at 65% health at which point she submerges and you begin fighting several adds. This Stage ends when enough Gripping Tentacles have been defeated.
Grimelord
- Stand at least 15-yards away from this add to avoid Sludge Nova.
- Stand at least 5-yards away from other players when affected by Fetid Rot so it can be safely dispelled if needed.
- Avoid being hit by Anchor Slam.
Night Watch Mariner
- Lantern of Darkness is cast when they reach 100% energy. This needs to be avoided as the ability deals critical group-wide damage.
- Ghostly Rage will cause the tank to take increased damage for a brief time.
- Avoid standing in the Give No Quarter impact area.
Decaying Minion
- Rabid causes these adds to randomly fixate players, run away if you're fixated.
- Avoid the lingering Decay pools as the add moves around.
- The longer the add survives the more powerful it'll become from Vigor.
Helya
- Helya uses several abilities from afar during this phase.
- Fury of the Maw pushes the group back and clears all Bilewater Liquefaction and Decay from the ground.
- Torrent deals steadily increasing damage to random players.
- Gripping Tentacles will periodically spawn around the platform, defeating enough of these will start Stage Three.
Stage Three - helheim's last stand (helya and adds)
Stage Three is a combination of Stage One and Stage Two and ends when Helya reaches 0% health.
- Again, if no one is in melee range of Helya, she will cast Corrosive Nova.
- Orb of Corrosion produces several lightning beams which follow random players. If you're targeted by one of these, kite it away from the group.
- The lightning beams will leave behind Decay, avoid standing in this.
- Taint of the Sea functions the same as it does in Stage One.
- Corrupted Breath is a frontal cone attack you should avoid.
- Being hit will give you a stack of Dark Hatred (this spell isn't currently seen in game, so no tooltip is available).
- This ability also spawns several Corrupted Axions.
- These cast a beam which creates a small patch on the ground. Standing in these patches deals a moderate amount of damage and applies a healing absorbing debuff. If no one stands in the patches, the debuff is applied to the entire group. (Ability names and tooltips will be added ASAP, they currently seem to be missing from the Dungeon Journal.)
- Fury of the Maw is also still used during this Stage.
- Night Watch Mariner adds are still present during this Stage.
- These have the same abilities as in Stage Two, however they now have twice the health from Rally of the Kvaldir.
- Decaying Minion adds are also still present in this Stage, and function the same as they did before.
Healing Strategy
Stage One - low tide (helya)
- Players may need extra healing while Orb of Corruption is active.
- The group will need anything from light to heavy healing when Bilewater Liquefaction occurs, this depends on how low the Bilewater Slimes health is.
- The players soaking Tentacle Strike will need light to moderate healing.
- Dispel Taint of the Sea from palyers when they're away from the group.
Stage Two - from the mists (adds)
- Grimelord
- Anyone hit by Sludge Nova will need heavy healing, but ideally no one will be getting hit except maybe the tank.
- Keep Fetid Rot debuffs under control, but avoid dispelling someone if there are other players within 5-yards of them or the debuff will spread.
- Night Watch Mariner
- The raid could take significant damage from Lantern of Darkness.
- Be prepared for the extra damage to the tank from Ghostly Rage.
- Helya
- The group will need light healing during Fury of the Maw.
Stage Three - helheim's last stand (helya and adds)
- Players may need extra healing while Orb of Corrosion is active.
- Taint of the Sea will once again need to be dispelled when the affected player is away from the group.
- Fury of the Maw is still used in this Stage, causing the group to need light healing.
- Night Watch Mariner are still active in this stage. Be prepared for Lantern of Darkness and Ghostly Rage still.
Debuffs to Track
- Taint of the Sea needs to be dispelled.
- Fetid Rot can be dispelled and the affected player may need additional healing.
- (Optional) Rabid may cause players to need additional healing if the add reaches them.
DBM Settings
Below are the DBM settings I'll be using for Helya. You can set them up however you'd like, but these ones should work well as a starting point. Some settings may be Mythic only.
