Magtheridon, Healer Guide

Updated 4 days, 17 hours ago for patch 2.5.1 by Preston. View the change log.

Magtheridon Dungeon Journal ModelThis page covers a healer-focused strategy for Magtheridon in Magtheridon's Lair in The Burning Crusade. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.

This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the encounter, combat log information, and Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.

General Mechanics and Abilities

All Stages

  • After 22-minutes, Magtheridon Enrages, increasing damage dealt.

Stage One - Banished

This stage begins the encounter and ends after 120-seconds, when Magtheridon's banishment subsides.

  • Five Hellfire Channelers are present to begin the encounter.
    • Hellfire Channeler
      • Interrupt Dark Mending to prevent the healing.
      • When possible, interrupt Shadow Bolt Volley to prevent the light damage dealt to players within 30-yards.
      • Avoid the impact locations of Burning Abyssals.
        • Burning Abyssal
          • Should be crowd controlled whenever possible.
          • Disappears after 60-seconds.
          • Deals moderate damage to random players with Fire Blast.
      • Targets random players with Fear, incapacitating them.
      • Upon death, applies a stack of Soul Transfer to remaining Channelers, increasing damage dealt and cast speed.

Stage Two - Magtheridon

This stage begins after 120-seconds in stage one, when Magtheridon's banishment subsides, and ends when Magtheridon reaches 30% health.

  • Any remaining Hellfire Channelers should be killed.
  • Magtheridon becomes active and joins the encounter.
    • Magtheridon
      • Don't stand in front to avoid Cleave.
      • Avoid the locations of Conflagration.
      • When Blast Nova is cast, five players must click on each Manticron Cube to channel them and interrupt the cast.
        • While all Cubes are being channeled, Magtheridon also takes greatly increased damage.
        • While channeling a Cube, Shadow Grasp deals light damage over time to the player.
        • After clicking on a Manticron Cube, Mind Exhaustion is applied to the player, preventing use of a Cube for 30-seconds.
      • Knocks back and silences all players with Quake.

Stage Three - Collapse

This stage begins when Magtheridon reaches 30% health and ends once it's killed.

  • This stage begins with a collapse of Debris, dealing heavy damage to all players and stunning them for 2-seconds.
    • Continue to avoid the subsequent impact locations of Debris.
  • Magtheridon continues to use the same abilities as stage two.

Healing Notes

Quick Notes

The notes below mostly pertain to progression difficulty, meaning if you out-gear the encounter or use extra healers they may not apply.

  • Use Cooldowns
  • Pre-heal Before (mainly for heal over time classes)
  • Other things to watch for
    • Players may end up out of range throughout the encounter due to the high number of knock backs and abilities that require movement.
    • Make sure all players are near full health before Magtheridon reaches 30% health.

Debuffs to Track

Major

  • Fear causes players to be incapacitated and possibly in need of additional healing.

Minor

  • Shadow Grasp causes players to need additional healing over time.

Useful Addons

DBM Settings

Below are the DBM settings I'll be using for Magtheridon in Magtheridon's Lair. You can set them up however you'd like, but these ones should work well as a starting point.
