Shade of Akama, Healer Guide

This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the encounter, combat log information, and Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.

General Mechanics and Abilities

Stage One - Unleash the Shade

During this stage, players will be fighting against waves of enemies. This stage ends when the Shade of Akama reaches Akama, the speed at which this happens is influenced by some of the enemies noted below.

  • Six Ashtongue Channelers are present on the raised platform at the back of the room to begin the encounter. 
    • Ashtongue Channeler
  • Every ~35-seconds a set of three enemies, an Ashtongue Sorcerer, an Ashtongue Elementalist, and an Ashtongue Rogue, spawn from each of the two doorways to the left and right of the raised platform.
    • All of these enemies are susceptible to crowd control.
    • Ashtongue Spiritbinder
    • Ashtongue Elementalist
    • Ashtongue Rogue
      • The tank will be dealing with Eviscerate.
      • Dispel Debilitating Poison (poison) to remove the decreased attack speed, decreased casting speed, and moderate damage over time effect.
  • Periodically an Ashtongue Sorcerer will spawn from of the two doorways and run to the Shade of Akama.
    • Ashtongue Sorcerer
  • Every ~60-seconds an Ashtongue Defender spawns from one of the two doorways.
    • Ashtongue Defender
      • The tank will be dealing with Debilitating Strike, possibly leading to threat generation issues.
      • The tank will also be dealing with heavy damage from Heroic Strike
      • Stay more than 5-yards away to avoid the interrupt from Shield Bash.

Stage Two - Pursuit

This stage begins when the Shade of Akama reaches Akama and ends when the Shade of Akama is killed. If Akama is killed by the Shade of Akama, the encounter will end and need to be restarted.

  • Any lesser enemies remaining from stage one will need to be dealt with, but new ones will no longer spawn.
  • Players have ~60-seconds to kill the Shade of Akama before it kills Akama.
  • Shade of Akama
    • Attacks Akama, and does not need to be tanked.
  •  Akama


Resistance Levels

  • Players generally won't make use of any additional Resistances on this encounter.

Healing Notes

Quick Notes

The notes below mostly pertain to progression difficulty, meaning if you out-gear the encounter or use extra healers they may not apply.

  • Use Cooldowns
    • as-needed if enemies get out of control during stage one
  • Other things to watch for
    • Players may be out of line of sight when on the raised platform, or vice versa, and potentially out of range depending on exact positioning when dealing with all the enemies in stage one.
    • During stage two, you should help damage Shade of Akama as much as possible. Healing required during this stage should be very low.

Debuffs to Track

Major

  • Spirit Mend should be purged quickly to prevent the healing over time.
  • Debilitating Poison (dispel, poison) should be dispelled quickly to remove the decreased attack speed, decreased casting speed, and moderate damage over time effect.

Below are the DBM settings I'll be using for Shade of Akama in the Black Temple. You can set them up however you'd like, but these ones should work well as a starting point.
