Eye of the Jailer, Healer Guide
Updated 10 months ago for patch 9.2.7 by Preston. View the change log.
This page covers a healer-focused strategy for Eye of the Jailer in Sanctum of Domination in Shadowlands. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.
This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the encounter, combat log information, and Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
General Mechanics and Abilities
Normal and Heroic
During this encounter, players alternate between stage one and stage two three times, before entering stage three.
All Stages
- Grapple! lets players traverse the gap near the boss by standing near the pile of chain and using the Extra Action Button.
Stage One - His Gaze Upon You
This stage begins the encounter and ends when the Eye of the Jailer reaches 75%, 50%, and 25% health. It begins again once both Deathseeker Eyes are killed in stage two.
- The tanks will be dealing with Deathlink, which causes damage to all players based on the amount of damage dealt to the tank.
- The tanks will also be dealing with Piercing Lens.
- Deals light damage to random players with Eye Bolt.
- Avoid the impact locations of Fracture Soul.
- Players hit must collect the Soul Shards that torment them to remove the Fracture Soul.
- On Heroic, summons Stygian Abductors.
- Stygian Abductor
- Stand on the player targeted by Dragging Chains to split the damage dealt and to lessen the speed affected players are pulled towards the edge.
- If enough players are hit and avoid being pulled off the edge, this will instead pull the Abductor out of the sky.
- While on the ground, the tank will be dealing with stacks of Assailing Lance, dealing increasing light damage over time.
- Stand on the player targeted by Dragging Chains to split the damage dealt and to lessen the speed affected players are pulled towards the edge.
- Stygian Abductor
Stage Two - Double Vision
This stage begins when the Eye of the Jailer reaches 75%, 50%, and 25% health and ends when both Deathseeker Eyes have been killed.
- Avoid the impact locations of Stygian Ejection, which spawn two Deathseeker Eyes.
- Deathseeker Eye
- The tanks will be dealing with Piercing Lens.
- Must be kept more than 30-yards away from other Eyes to prevent Shared Suffering from dealing increasing moderate damage over time to all players with Suffering.
- While more than one Eye is alive, Dying Suffering deals increasing moderate damage over time to all players with Suffering.
- Dispel Slothful Corruption (magic) to remove the damage over time and reduced casting, ranged attack, and movement speed effects.
- When affected by Spreading Misery, move away from other players to drop the resulting Jailer's Misery pool.
- Deathseeker Eye
- Eye of the Jailer
- Continues to use Fracture Soul.
- Stay more then 8-yards away from other players to avoid chaining damage from Desolation Beam.
- Deals moderate damage to all players with Titanic Death Gaze.
Stage Three - Immediate Extermination
This stage begins after the third time in stage two when the final two Deathseeker Eyes have been killed. It ends when the Eye of the Jailer is killed.
- Immediate Extermination deals moderate damage to all players while gradually reducing healing received.
- Deathlink, Desolation Beam, and Fracture Soul continue during this stage.
- On Heroic, continues to summon Stygian Abductors.
- During Annihilating Glare, avoid the beam that sweeps across the area by using the Grapple! points.
Mythic Differences
Stage One - His Gaze Upon You
- When affected by Hopeless Lethargy, stay at least 8-yards away from other players to avoid chaining the damage and reduced movement speed effect.
Stage Two - Double Vision
- Affects all players with either Scorn or Ire, dealing increasing light damage over time.
- Coming into contact with a player of the opposite debuff triggers Scorned Annihilation, dealing critical damage to all players.
Stage Three - Immediate Extermination
- Hopeless Lethargy continues during this stage.
Healing Notes
Quick Notes, All Difficulties
The notes below mostly pertain to progression difficulty, meaning if you out-gear the difficulty you're on or use extra healers they may not apply.
- Use Major Cooldowns
- on Titanic Death Gaze [occurs about every 30-seconds in stage two]
- during stage three / Immediate Extermination
- Use Minor Cooldowns on
- Pre-heal Before (mainly for heal over time classes)
- stage two begins
- stage three begins
- Potion of Spiritual Clarity use
- immediately after Deathlink before Dragging Chains
- Other things to watch for
- External defensive cooldowns should be used on the tank before Deathlink to further mitigate the damage dealt to all players.
Debuffs to Track
Major

Minor
