Stone Legion Generals, Healer Guide

Updated 6 months ago for patch 9.0.5 by Preston. View the change log.

General Kaal Dungeon Journal ModelThis page covers a healer-focused strategy for Stone Legion Generals in Castle Nathria in Shadowlands. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.

This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the encounter, combat log information, and Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.

General Mechanics and Abilities

Normal and Heroic

Stage One - Kaal's Assault

This stage begins the encounter and ends when Kaal's Hardened Stone Form is broken after reaching 50% health. During this stage Kaal is on the ground while Grashaal flies above.

  • General Kaal
    • The tanks will be dealing with Serrated Swipe and stacks of Serrated Tear, which will eventually force a tank switch.
    • When targeted by Wicked Mark, move at least 8-yards away from other players and position in a way where no other players are between you, the boss, and the other player targeted.
    • Dispel Heart Rend (magic) to remove the long-duration damage over time effect.
      • Upon being dispelled, the affected player takes moderate damage over time from Heart Hemorrhage.
  • General Grashaal
  • Once Kaal reaches 50% health, Hardened Stone Form makes her virtually immune to damage, and various Stone Legion Forces are called to the encounter.
    • Stone Legion Forces
      • Stone Legion Goliath
        • At 20% health, becomes a Soultaint Effigy, reducing healing received by all players by 10% per second.
        • Upon death, Anima Engorged leaves behind a Massive Anima Orb for 15-seconds.
          • Collecting the Orb grants Anima Infection, which can be returned to Prince Renathal to restore 40% Mana.
      • Stone Legion Commando
    • Prince Renathal

Stage Two - Grashaal's Blitz

This stage begins once Kaal's Hardened Stone Form is broken, and ends once Grashaal's Hardened Stone Form is broken after reaching 50% health. During this stage Grashaal is on the ground while Kaal flies above.

  • General Grashaal
  • General Kaal
    • Wicked Mark continues during this stage.
    • Targets random players with Ricocheting Shuriken, dealing moderate damage and chaining them to up to three other players.
  • Once Grashaal reaches 50% health, Hardened Stone Form makes him virtually immune to damage, and various Stone Legion Forces will be called to the encounter.
    • Stone Legion Forces
      • These are the same as stage one and continue to drop Anima Orbs upon death.
    • Prince Renathal

Stage Three - Unified Offensive

This stage begins once Grashaal's Hardened Stone Form is broken, and ends when both Kaal and Grashaal are killed.

Mythic Differences

All Stages

Stage One and Stage Two

  • General Kaal
  • Stone Legion Forces
    • Stone Legion Skirmisher
      • Function the same as the ones summoned by General Kaal, noted above.
    • Stone Legion Goliath
      • Deals increased damage due to Ravenous Hunger.
      • Targets random players with Ravenous Feast, dealing moderate damage and stunning them, followed by heavy damage over a short time.
      • At 20% health, Soultaint Effigy now reduces healing received by all players by 20% per second.
      • Upon death, Volatile Anima Engorged leaves behind a Massive Anima Orb for 15-seconds.
        • Collecting the Orb grants Volatile Anima Infection, dealing moderate damage over time and can be returned to Prince Renathal to restore 20% Mana.
          • Returning the Massive Anima Orb to Renathal triggers Volatile Anima Detonation, dealing moderate damage to all players and knocking them back.
    • Stone Legion Commando
      • At 20% health, gains a large damage absorption shield and immunity to area of effect damage from Volatile Stone Shell.
        • If the damage absorption shield isn't depleted in 4-seconds, Stone Shell Detonation deals heavy damage to all players.
      • Upon death, Volatile Anima Laden leaves behind an Anima Orb for 30-seconds.
        • Collecting the Orb grants Volatile Anima Infusion, dealing light damage over time and can be returned to Prince Renathal to restore 10% Mana.
