Skorpyron, Healer Guide
Posted 3 years, 11 months ago for patch 7.2 by Preston.
This page covers a healer-focused strategy for Skorpyron in The Nighthold. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.
This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the fight as well as Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
General Mechanics and Abilities
Normal and Heroic
- This fight takes place in a Scorpid Spawning Ground, venturing too close to the Scorpids will cause them to join the fight. Skorpyron will periodically use
Call of the Scorpid to force Scorpids to join.
- Crystalline Scoprid use
Energy Surge on random group members, causing a small amount of damage and applying a damage over time effect.
- Volatile Scorpid use
Scorpid Swarm, buffing all other active Scorpids.
Boon of the Scorpid will buff the Scorpids as the fight goes on.
Shrouded prevents the Scorpids from taking area of effect damage until they enter combat. This is mostly to prevent incidental damage from damaging the Scorpids until they're active.
- Skorpyron will use
Chitinous Exoskeleton, reducing damage taken and setting up the means to deal with other abilities.
- Standing behind the
Broken Shard will prevent damage and the knockback from
Shockwave.
- This acts as a soft-enrage mechanic as the damage could potentially become overwhelming if the boss isn't killed fast enough.
- Standing behind the
- Breaking the Exoskeleton completely causes
Exoskeletal Vulnerability.
- As the Exoskeleton is broken,
Crystalline Fragments are thrown at the location of random players, dealing moderate damage to the entire group.
- Each time the Exoskeleton is regrown, Skorpyron gains a stack of
Infused Exoskeleton.
- When
Shockwave is used, stand behind a
Broken Shard so you break line of sight on Skorpyron.
- Don't stand infront of Skorpyron to avoid damage from
Arcanoslash.
- This applies stacks of
Arcane Tether to any tank hit.
- This applies stacks of
- Avoid
Focused Blast when Skorpyron turns in a random direction to cast it.
- Being hit will cause high damage and a stun, being hit subsequent times will cause higher damage and a longer stun.
Mythic Differences
- The Scordpid Spawning Grounds contain a new Scorpid.
- Acidmaw Scorpids spew out random puddles of poison, and leave one behind when they die. Avoid standing in these.
- Skorpyron will now be affected by
Chromatic Exoskeleton. This changes the effects of the
Crystalline Fragments depending on the color.
- Move at least 9-yards away from
Volatile Fragments after
Shockwave to avoid the damage from
Volatile Resonance.
- Move at least 9-yards away from
Acidic Fragments cause aditional damage to the group while they're up. This effect stacks the more fragments there are.
Volatile Fragments cause damage to anyone standing with in 3-yards of them, and a fatal burst of damage shortly after
Shockwave.
Crystalline Fragments continue to function as they did on Normal and Heroic, dealing damage to the group when they land.
Healing Strategy
Healing this fight is relatively simple and shouldn't require any well-timed use of cooldowns to survive a mechanic if everything is handled properly.
- As
Chitinous Exoskeleton is broken, be aware of the moderate damage being done to the group as the
Broken Shard land.
- On Mythic, be prepared to use a group-healing cooldown to survive the extra damage from
Acidic Fragments.
- Be aware of the increased damage on the tanks when Scorpid adds are present
Debuffs to Track
- (Optional)
Focused Blast can be tracked so you know who is stunned.
DBM Settings
Below are the DBM settings I'll be using for Skorpyron. You can set them up however you'd like, but these ones should work well as a starting point. Some settings may be Mythic only.
