Stormwall Blockade, Healer Guide
Updated 2 years, 2 months ago for patch 8.1.5 by Preston. View the change log.
This page covers a healer-focused strategy for Stormwall Blockade in Battle of Dazar'alor. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.
This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences with the encounter as well as Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
General Mechanics and Abilities
Normal and Heroic
This is a two-stage encounter during which players will be fighting a pair of tidepriests and then their elemental monstrosity.
This is a "flashback" encounter for Alliance players, meaning they'll be completing it as Horde races.
All Stages
- Laminaria gains Energy from various sources throughout the encounter, detailed below.
- At 100% Energy,
Catastrophic Tides kills all players.
- At 100% Energy,
Stage One - Storm the Ships
This stage begins the encounter and ends when the two tidepriests are killed.
- Each tidepriest is on their own boat, players can travel to the boats using the the Pterrodax at the end of the dock before the encounter begins.
- Both tidepriests should be killed at the same time to prevent
Greater Storm's Empowerment /
Greater Tidal Empowerment from empowering Laminaria.
- On Heroic, at 50% health, the tidepriest will teleport to the other ship using
Translocate.
- Their health pool isn't shared, so if one tidepriest reaches 50% health before the other, one ship will have to deal with both of them at the same time.
Sister Katherine
- Avoid the
Voltaic Flash orbs as they dart from one side of the ship to the other.
- When affected by
Crackling Lightning, move as far away from the group as possible. Players that aren't affected to move the opposite direction to mitigate the silence effect from the resulting
Thunderous Boom.
- The
Electric Shroud absorption shield must be damaged down as quickly as possible to interrupt
Storm's Empowerment and prevent Laminaria from gaining additional Energy.
Jolting Volley deals light damage to random players.
- Upon death, channels
Greater Storm's Empowerment on Laminaria, granting a high amount of Energy over time, until Joseph is also killed.
Brother Joseph
- Avoid the impact locations of
Sea Storm and the resulting storm clouds.
- Tempting Sirens lure players to the jump off the boat with
Tempting Song and must be killed.
- Targeted players have a short time to run to the opposite side of the boat to give as much time as possible for the Siren to be killed.
- The
Tidal Shroud absorption shield must be damaged down as quickly as possible to interrupt
Tidal Empowerment and prevent Laminaria from gaining additional Energy.
Tidal Volley deals light damage to random players.
- Upon death, channels
Greater Tidal Empowerment on Laminaria, granting a high amount of Energy over time, until Katherine is also killed.
Stage Two - Laminaria
This stage begins after the two tidepriests are killed and ends when Laminaria is killed.
- Use the Translocation Pedestals on the boats to return to the beach.
- The tanks will be dealing with stacks of
Kelp-Wrapped.
- Upon expiring, triggers
Kelp Wrapping on nearby players and enemies (except Laminaria).
- Upon expiring, triggers
- Avoid the impact locations of
Sea Swell and the resulting
Freezing Tide Pools.
- Stand in the impact location of
Ire of the Deep to split the damage and prevent additional
Freezing Tide Pools from spawning.
- When affected by
Storm's Wail, run as far away from Laminaria as possible while absorbing as many
Freezing Tide Pools as possible.
- When the effect expires, an Energized Storm spawns and moves towards Laminaria.
- If this reaches Laminaria, Laminaria gains Energy over time from
Energizing Wake.
- The tanks can use
Kelp Wrapping to make killing these easier.
- On Heroic, killing these leaves behind an Energized Remnant orb that continually casts
Unbound Energy until it is picked up by a player.
- Picking it up triggers
Storm's Wail on the player and the process repeats.
- Picking it up triggers
- If this reaches Laminaria, Laminaria gains Energy over time from
- When the effect expires, an Energized Storm spawns and moves towards Laminaria.
- If no players are in melee range,
Reaching Attack deals steadily increasing damage to players.
Mythic Differences
Stage One - Storm the Ships
- Avoid the impact locations of
Sea Swell and the resulting
Freezing Tide Pools.
Sister Katherine
- Players on her ship gradually gain stacks of
Mark of the Storm and should switch ships when the damage becomes too much.
Brother Joseph
- Players on his ship gradually gain stacks of
Mark of the Seas and should switch ships when the damage becomes too much.
Stage Two - Laminaria
- The souls of the tidepriests continue to assist Laminaria, but it's unclear exactly what this means from the journal.
Freezing Tide Pools clear stacks of
Kelp Wrapping on Energized Storms that walk through them.
Ire of the Deep now has a knock back effect that's reduced based on the number of players splitting the damage.

DBM Settings
Below are the DBM settings I'll be using for Stormwall Blockade. You can set them up however you'd like, but these ones should work well as a starting point. Some settings may be Mythic only.
